Hey everybody
My husband and I just found out that I am 5 weeks pregnant. We had our first sonogram on monday and there was no baby only the sac. All my levels are fine and where they should be. I was just wondering if anybody had this happen to them. We also have a four and two year old. I am just pretty down about the news. We have been ttc for 2 years now. I just need a little hope:) Thanks

I would not worry too much. I am 8 weeks pregnant and I haven't been for an ultrasound yet (in our little hicktown they dont do it until about 18-20 weeks) but I would say it should be normal. According to all the websites i've researched and books i've read, even where i'm at right now 8, almost 9 weeks, the baby is just now barely 5/8 of an inch long! I would imagine that would be very hard to see! I just copied this off American Baby.com :

A wonderful new sound enters the world this week: your baby's heartbeat. Although still too faint to be picked up by a doctor's stethoscope, it's visible in a sonogram as a tiny, pulsing dot in the middle of your still-transparent embryo's body. From now until birth, it will beat approximately 150 times a minute, twice the average adult heart rate. ***The rest of the embryo is working hard, too--it will triple in size this week, to about a quarter of an inch long.***
I'm thinking if it has to triple in size to become 1/4" long, there's probably good reason why you didn't see anything! Dont let it get you down! I'm sure everything will be ok! Keep us posted!

I am due July 10th.. Yes this happened to b on November 11th.. I was a lil over 5wks.. I went back on Nov 20th me being 6wks 6days I was my lil bean & heatbeat..This is my 8th pregnancy w me having a blighted ovam(empty sac) 3yrs ago.. I was scared but every preg is different.. Goodluck

This also happened to me with my first pregnancy, I thought I was about 6 or 7 weeks along, and they did an ultrasound, and said I was 5 weeks cause all they could see was the sac and no fetal pole. She is now a happy healthy 18 month old!

i hope that everything is ok ... i will tell you this same thing happened with my son a sac but no fetal pole i was also around 5 weeks ... they rescheduled another sono about a week of so later and there he was ... so try not to worry and good luck

I'm 12 weeks now and yes this has happened to me! At 5 weeks I had an ultra sound and they only saw the sack too but 3 weeks later the baby was visable. Don't stress. Be positive and see what happens. Best wishes :)

Have you been to the doctor since? I was just wondering, i had never heard of this.
