I am on my 4th,and this is the first time I showed early, but mainly cause it was twins. We lost one at 5 weeks though, and the rest of the pg has been so normal.I am now 16 weeks along and Im not bigger then I ever was with my other children at this stage,I actually think I am smaller.
Its not a given fact that you develop faster and show sooner, its just true that because your body has been down this road before it adjust easier to the changes taking place.

Again, like the are all saying, you show sooner, because your stomach muscles aren't all back to normal, but weight gain can be different. I gained 65lbs the first pregnancy, and only 25lbs the second because I was much more careful about health and diet. This time, my 3rd, I am almost 5 months and was showing a tad bit at 3, but haven't gained a pound yet

It CAN be true. not always. In some women, youre body will regonize the pattern, this means your uterus will expand faster to compensate for the human growing inside you. but this isnt always true. some women wont show for months, first, second or third baby. it depends on your body.

weight gain with pregnancy should always depend on the weight you are currently.

if you are underweight, you are expected to gain a lot more than if you were overweight.

so keep healthy and active and everything should be fine.

most women assume that pregnancy is a time to pig out, when in all reality, it's the most cruicial time to be healthy!

get bigger yes...but you still shouldn't gain more than 35lbs throughout the whole pregnancy

also depends on the sex of the baby

I had a thyroid prob last time, so I was HUUUGE, but this time I hid it and then all of a sudden 19 weeks hit and bam... But I went from small to pregnant, that in between faze wasn't as bad. Last time I started to show, but I just kind of looked like I put on a few. This time I really just went for me, to preg...

You show faster with each child, though your weight gain should be similar.

It seems to be true =) I am also expecting my second, and my belly is fairly large already, I am only 20 weeks along. As long as your doctor isn't concerned with your gain, you shouldn't be worried either =)

I think when they say you get "bigger" faster they mean your bump will show quicker not that you will gain weight quicker. Your weight gain depends on you alone, you want to try to gain the healthy expected amount and some people gain more some gain less, it just depends on the person. I think it's one of those Dumb old wives tales. I did not show any faster this time around and as far as weight gain I'm gaining about the same as well. Weight gain is scary but it's kinda something unevitable and that you sign up for when you get pregnant, just eat healthy and worry about your weight after you baby is born.

I've nearly finished my second pregnancy and I was showing earlier, gained weight fast like I did with my first and am only about 2cm bigger now by fundal height than my first. I gain a lot of weight in my pregnancy even when I eat super healthy, but don't worry about it at all because I lose it just as fast...well hoping I do again this time! Don't worry about showing more, some days people tell me I look really small for dates, others tell me I'm huge.

its not entirely true sorry... my mother all my friends even i thought i was bigger this time round.. i was told you get bigger with your second and that boys are bigger but at my last appt. i had my midwife check my fundal height and to my surprise it was EXACTLY the same. i believe everyones different and you know what who cares love evry month its the only nine month youll ever get like that with this and every child lol.
i hope i didnt sound rude lol i just was surprised lol

For me, personally it's opposite. My first pregnancy I showed kind of quick and gained weight fast, but I wasn't eating healthy like I should have been. Now w/this pregnancy I am showing slower and gaining weight "perfect" as my OB says, but I am actually eating healthy! The right way! lol =) Every pregnancy is different, but I would agree that showing may be quicker but weight gain should be relatively the same. Just eat right and excersice lightly =) Good luck and Congrats!

It's not necessarily that you are gaining weight faster, you just start to show faster because the muscles have already been stretched out :P it also depends how you generally gain your baby weight, like for me l gain all my weight in my 2nd trimester and none in my 3rd.

Marti - posted on 11/21/2009

you might show faster, but your weight gain should be similar - 3-4 lbs in the first trimester, then about a pound a week after that if you are of average weight.

[deleted account]

it is true, because your muscles aren't as tight this time around you do seem to get bigger faster. x
