Placenta Previa

Hi. I am 20 weeks pregnant with my second child. I went in for my last ultrasound and they discovered that I have marginal Placenta Previa. It is only barely covering the cervix. My doctor said that he wanted me on pelvic rest; no sex , heavy lifting, or strenuous activities. He will do another ultrasound at 28 weeks to see with my growing fetus if the placenta has moved upward more to were I can deliver naturally and not have any other complications. If any of you have had this type of situation can you tell me: what were your limitations, and if you ended up being able to deliver naturally? I am more looking for answers on marginal/partial placenta previa and not complete placenta previa... thank you

I had placenta previa during my first word yet on this time or not. It was discovered when I was 15 weeks and was completely under control by the 28 weeks ultrasound. I also was put on pelvic rest and told to take it easy. I never got any lifting limitations or anything (I even kept working during this time) until I was about 24 weeks or so because I noticed a bit of discomfort otherwise. As far as delivery, I was induced 2 days before my due date, had 13 hours total of labor, and delivered my little girl vaginally (with the assistance of an episiotomy). I do have a narrow pelvis and she came out face up, but I was still able to do the natural delivery just fine.

Just take it easy and rest assured that it will probably correct itself by your next ultrasound. Your SO may not appreciate the pelvic rest, but if you were anything like I will! Sex was painful while the condition persisted, so we were both glad when it was gone. Good luck and stay positive! You can still deliver naturally if it changes! :)

Hi Bridgette. Same thing happened to me with this pregnancy. I had a marginal previa and was throwing up which was causing me to bleed also. I was put on bedrest and no sex allowed. Wasn't let off bedrest till my next sono. Still had it but no more bleeding so he allowed me back to work but to "not overdue it." I'm now 24 weeks along and the baby has grown more and moved the placenta up. Which I was thrilled about cuz I did not want a c-section. Even got the OK to have sex again. But my bf was still too scared to. Which is fine. Better to be safe than sorry. But my OB says that with marginal previas they usually always resolve once the baby grows.
