I am debating on having our new baby share a room with our, will be 2 year old, daughter. I have a room I can turn into a toddler room in the basement, but worry about how she will deal with a baby taking over her room. And I don't really want her all alone in the basement/ its the only room down there:(. I also worry about my toddler climbing into the crib of the new baby. And worry about the new baby waking up my toddler all through the night!

I would love stories from mommies with a toddler and baby, to get some ideas on how to arrange sleeping quarters!

they get used to things very quickly, surprisingly. it would be sweet if they shared a room and it would also be a good way for them to learn about sharing, etc. i'm from a large family so i didn't have my own room until i was 16. if you put one downstairs you're probably going to worry since you aren't right there. maybe you guys can move downstairs and put the kids upstairs together??? i think shairng for ow is fine until they are older.

My kids share a room and they are 4 months and 16 months. My daughter has yet to be woken up by her baby brother. She wakes up to potty during the night and while she is up I go ahead and do what I can for the baby. But we have had no problem and they have been sharing a room for a little over a month now. Our biggest obstacle was the beds.

I bought my daughter a toddler bed and told her it was her new "big girl" bed. I let her sleep in it a few nights before moving the baby into what used to be her crib.

She adjusted very well. I think it just depends on how you present it. Make it a happy, fun experience instead of that they are "having to " share a room.

Well we are giving our kids a room of there own. I wanted them to share but hubby shared as a child and doesnt want his kids to share a room so they arent ...
BUT
my sister in law has no choice but to have her 2 girls int he same room. the little one is now 7months and the older is 2 1/2yrs. Yes they do wake each other as they both sleep through different sounds but she has no choice but for them to share at the moment.
They dont think there is a problem with them sharing though but that is the downside. The older one doesnt climb into the cot while the baby is in there only when the other cousins are over to play do they do that... they all understand its the babys bed though.

I dont think there is anything wrong with sharing a room - nothing wrong with trying it out and revising it if it doesnt work out.

We are going to have to do that too. My son will have just turned 2 when the baby arrives. We are trying to get him used to falling asleep on his own and hopefully in the next couple months we will switch him to a big bed and leave the crib empty for a while. The new baby will be sleeping in our room in a bassinet until he/she can sleep thru the night. Good luck!

My son will be 21 months when the new baby arrives. We plan on keeping the baby in our room, using the pack and play bassinet, and keeping our son in his own room. That way they won't wake each other up. We will keep them separate until the new baby can sleep through the night. Hopefully that will be at 4 months like my first son. Then they can share rooms. I don't know if it will work, but you just have to adapt to your family's needs.

we have my son who is 10 months now and my two stepkids 3,4 they have are all in one room till our house is done and Dylan hasn't woke the older two up yet but they have woke him up. I haven't had any problems with them climbing in the crib. It is up to you but I can't wait till they are in their own rooms just so they don't wake eachother up. Also Dylan was to young to know they have taken over his room but I felt super guilty. But no matter what you will do what is right for your family. Good Luck
