My son is 2 n a bit yrs old and an excellent sleeper in his cot, but we were hoping to shift him into a big bed shortly as his cot will become our next baby's bed (due in Oct) and I'd rather do it sooner so he's settled in his proper bed and doesn't blame bub no.2 for stealing his cot...

Any tips that might help his transition?

My daughter is almost 2, our baby #2 is due in June! We switched Scarlett to her big bed about a week ago. It's going great, surprisingly (at night anyway)! Nap time is a different story. Before we started trying to sleep in there, we did other things in her new room. I had a bunch of toys, and games that we played together every day, and the bed was set up in there for a month or so before she actually started sleeping in there. And we talked about it A LOT! Then one night, we decided it was time, and we layed her down in the new bed, and she never even got up! Went right to sleep! I think it's been 8 nights, and only once, she came into our room and asked for me. I held her for a few minutes and put her back in bed, right back to sleep! Good Luck!!

I'm currently trying to get my 2 1/2 year old to sleep in a big-boy bed. It's not going so well for us yet. He refuses to even touch it! I have laid him in it while I got his stuff (blanket and bear) ready for his nap, but he absolutely insists on sleeping in his crib. Worst case scenario, though, my husband and I are prepared to get a different crib for the new addition (due in July... on my son's 3rd birthday). I'll let you know if I find a trick that works.

If you can, get bedding with characters, animals, trucks or whatever that he likes and maybe he will like his new bed more. Keep the bedtime ritual the same.

We are doing the same with our 3 year old son. We'll get his new bed next month, so he will be all settled in when baby #2 arrives in october. I think that what you plan on doing is a good idea, it will give them enough transition time. I was also thinking about leaving the daybed/crib apart for a couple months before putting it back together. Maybe that will help too....best of luck to you! sounds like you know what you're doing
