video game addiction!

I have a 12 year old son who doesn't want to do anything but sit around and play video games or watch tv. I've taken all the systems and packed them away, took his game boy. I found him playing his brothers while his brother was outside playing.I don't know what to do for this kid. He has got a weight problem and I son't want to have to yell at him all the time wich is what I have to do to get him to move around. Any ideas on how to handle this? He will be playing football in the fall and he will have a hard time.

maybe invest in a Wii thats pretty active gaming system, my boys are gamers to but no weight issue.. so im really not sure what i would even do but i think yer on the right track by taken it away, maybe as afamily you could do something outside to get him interested

Hmmm, I don't actually have this problem as my 12 yo son is very much an outdoorsy type. He does have videogames but has probably used them less than an hour in this entire year! What if you told him that he could play his games if he did equivalent in outdoor/excersize? Say, if he went for a walk for half an hour he could play on the game system for half an hour? Or if he went on the trampoline or played soccer for an hour he would earn time with his video games? There are also some active video games... eye toy and wot not, maybe this would help? I hope you find these suggestions helpful :)
