hi guys!
just wondering if there are any young mom groups around nanaimo area. I am 20, and am a new mom of an 8 month od boy, and would love to do a playgroup/drop in type thing with other young moms around here. I went to a mom n me group today but it was mostly older kids and the moms were second or third time around moms so were much more..experienced than I was. Any suggestions?

There is Strong Start. They can play with other babys/toddlers, there is designated time for snack (they provide) and "circle time" where they sing songs and read a story. It is from Mon-Fri and lasts 3 hours if you want to stay the whole duration. You can drop in whatever day you'd like, at whatever time, and leave at whatever time within the time gap of course. Time of day is different between locations but they are all over Nanaimo and there is one in Ladysmith as well.
The locations are:
-Fairview Elementary
-Georgia Avenue Elementary
-Quarterway Elementary
-Ladysmith Primary School
-Woodbank Primary
-McGirr Elementary
-Bayview Elementary
-Rutherford Elementary
I bring my kiddies there whenever I can, my boys are 2.5 and 10 months. I havent really had a chance to bring my youngest since they close for the summer (they will be back in September though!). It is SO much fun! Its pretty much like preschool but you dont have to pay and you have to stay there with your child. But you get to meet a lot of mommys and your child will have an awesome time. Even if he doesnt like playing with the other kids yet, there is lots of activities for them to do on their own like painting, playing in the dirt box, etc.
Look into it if you would like - I highly recommend it!

sorry i live in the comox valley so im not sure about nanaimo, but if you call your local VIHA public health office they should have a list of playgroups?? They dont have enough stuff like that out here either. most of the moms in the playgroups are great but usually 10 years older than me, i agree it would be fun to have a younger moms playgroup
