I was admitted to the hospital this past week with severe chest pain. I was given morpine for pain and phenergan for nausea until they found out it wasn't my heart, it was due to the fibromyalgia. I was sent home with severe pain and nausea. Called my dr. at Fibro and Fatigue Center and he wouldn't prescribe anything else for me. I normally take ultram during the day and Tylox at night only with soma for pain. These meds aren't touching my pain and I'm afraid to go back to the ER and get treated horribly again and it just be a waste of time and money. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have been reading about chest pain with fibro because I too suffer from it and shortness of breath. My fibro doc doesn't know about it or doesn't agree that it could be caused by fibro but what I have found is that taking a long hot bath everyday is suppose to help relieve the tension and stress on the muscles between the lung and ribs. It is a small muscle but can cause a lot of pain. I have tried it and it has helped me some. The articles I found say that it could take a long time to repair the muscle so that it is back to normal...but that depends on how severe the pain is.

Hi everyone! Sorry not to keep you all updated. I ended up back in the ER and this time they found severe esophageal spasms were causing my pain. Also, my gallbladder wasn't functioning and was inflamed, so they had to remove it. The chest pain is much better now, but seems to get return with anxiety. Thanks to all of you for all the suggestions and support!

Hi Cassie,

Have you ever heard of Ardyss International? They are a health & wellness company. I became a consultant after their natural products helped myself along with my friends and family. We have never been in better health and our doctors have stated this. Ardyss sells all natural juices. Their most popular product is the Le'Vive juice. Le'Vive is a miracle! Le'Vive concentrates the power of the world's top five antioxidant producing fruits in one product: Mangosteen, Noni, Acai Berry, Goji and Pomegranate. The combination of their juices leverages their synergic action in your body to the fullest, slowing your body's cells aging process while preventing the occurrence of terrible degenerative diseases. Basically unhealthy cells are rejuvenated and regardless of what health issue a person has they will no longer have it. Examples are diabetes, blood pressure & cholesterol problems, thyroid issues, cancer, insomnia, migraines, flu, chronic fatigue etc. The health & wellness industry is going to hit the trillion-dollar mark in 2010 due to people going all natural & wanting to be healthier. There is nothing easier than drinking a few ounces of juice everyday instead of trying to swallow capsules or mixing powders in liquid. I was able to quit my job within a few months of working for Ardyss because of the rise of people wanting to be healthier & there is no selling involved, seriously. If you're interested in learning more about the products you can view my website at: www.ardysslife.com/bodybymoore. If your interested in the products or the business please let me know. Keep in mind you save 40% on all products if you sign up as a consultant. An appointment with Ardyss will change your life.

Have them check you for Vocal Cord dysfunction. That is what caused my chest pain. It is caused from not using your diaphram to breath and using your chest musles instead.

I am sorry to hear that you are in so much pain. Have you ever heard of XanGo? It is a company that markets a natural juice that is known to be used for pain along with other ailments. My whole family drinks this juice every day just for the health benifits the product has. I started buying the juice for my 5 year old son who has very bad allergies. He went from getting 3 shots weekly to once a month. My mother who has fibromyalgia started taking it about a month ago and is so happy with the result she is getting. If you would like more info let me know I can e-mail you.

Hi Cassie,
I have also had severe chest pain and have been diagnosed with costchondritis and xyphodynia, which, I was told by my specialist can be common with fibro. The pain with these conditions can be extreme. The first time it happened I went to the ER, they were not sure what was wrong, it was so bad I thought I was dying. When I told the ER that I had fibro they seemed to stop looking so hard for what was wrong with me. I definately felt a shift in attitude. The pain has been so bad a few times that I think -this can not be because of fibro, something is seriously wrong-but now I just stay home and suffer through it rather than go get checked at the ER and feel bad due to others lack of knowledge or understanding. It sort of comes and goes for me and now that I know that I am not going to die and it is not my heart I just try to get through it, knowing that it does seem to go away again. I also get severe nausea with the pain and an actual swelling up of the xyphoid process at the base of the sternum. I take a couple percocet and find heat really helps (I use a heating pad held across my chest) when that particulair pain is bad. Once I was finally diagnosed with this condition my specialist said there is really not much else that I can do besides meds for pain and heat/ice.

I have been having chest pain since 2004. I have pericarditis- swelling in the tissue around my heart- that is worse when I have a fibro or lupus flare. I live with constant chest tightness and pain, shortness of breath and numbness and tingling down the left side of my body.
Motrin- or ibuprofen- 800 mg a day helps to keep it manageable. It reduces swelling and inflammation in the soft tissue which takes some of the pressure and pain away.
I also take cymbalta for the help it gives chronic pain sufferers. The depression relieving properties help keep me feeling more evenly balanced when I would otherwise have trouble dealing with life.
I do have little breakdowns occasionally- ok sometimes they are HUGE breakdowns- but they are only when the stress is too much to handle.
I cannot lay flat to sleep so I have 3 pillows, a body pillow and often sleep on the couch because it is easier to breathe without the pressure and chest pain.
I do not have any fixes for it, and I know it is awful at times, but it does subside and becomes easier to deal with once the flare fades.
Need an ear just email me... I understand on so many levels.

I went to the er not to long ago w/ severe back pain and the doc so clearly thought I was in there for the meds because he told me I had heart burn and he wanted to give me tagamet. I told him that tagamet could kill me because I am on blood thinners and they make the blood thinner not work and I could get another blood clot. He told me he thought I was wrong and that he was not going to give me pain meds. I insisted that he call down to the pharmacy and sure enough they told him I could not take tagamet. Why in the world would he want to give me an antacid? This sounds so crazy it sounds like I am telling a story. If they understood what we go through and how humiliating and bothersome the er is they would realise that a trip to the er just to get drugs is obsurd. I agree. It sounds like you need a differant doctor who truly believes what you go through. Good luck.
