By the time it comes me for to go to bed at night, it is so hard for my body to relax to go to sleep. I am going and going all day with my kids, so when go to lay down at night the pain hits with such a rush and tossing turning trying to find comfortable postions. I wake so exchausted and day it so much harder. I try to make sure I give myself breaks and rest during the day when the pain is bad.The nights seem to so hard for me. Anyone have simular experience or suggest Thank you

has anyone tried xyrem for sleep? i have read that it is supposed to be one of the best medications for sleep for fibromyalgia. i have a friend who's symptoms were very similar to mine. after taking xyrem and getting the proper kind of sleep, she says she no longer feels like she has fibromyalgia. it is difficult to get a doc to prescribe it and it is very expensive, but i sure wish i could try it!!!

i take 50 mg seroquel (available by Rx) and within 45 min i can hardly hold my eyes open. the problem i have with this is that i sleep for 12+ hours when i take it. therefore, i only take it occassionally when i really feel like i can afford to be out that long. :(

Most of my life I've dealt with this. Do you take Flexeril? This helps me immensly with relaxing my muscles enough to heal properly.

I appreciate the information on alternative ideas on how to get some sleep at night. I have severe sciatic nerve damage with constant pain and neuropathy in my hip, thigh, calf, ankle and foot. I am in constant pain, different levels at different times throughout the day though. But the night is the worst... I have a difficult time getting to sleep and staying asleep. I do take pain medication when the pain is intolerable, but I really don't like them because I feel hungover for the next two days... I have tried adjusting the amount of meds I take, up and down, but I still feel the same... I find that it is easier for me to lay down and get to sleep between 3am and 5am for some reason, then I sleep until 11am - 12pm. This is so not working for me... I need to get back on a sleep schedule that works better within my family. I mostly treat my body with natural/homeopathic medicines, but the pain is too bad at times so control with natural remedies... I will try the tea suggested above, I hope it will help get me to sleep... Thank you all for sharing your information!!!

The main reason I am having my shoulder replaced next month is because I can not sleep through the night if I have done too much during the day or it has been raining for several days. I have found that if I sleep on the couch on my left side with my right shoulder(The one that is being replaced) propped up against the back of the couch. My biggest problem normally id if I DO sleep through the night I am sooo stiff in the morning that I can hardly move. Soo I make sure I drink a large glass of water just before bed so I do get up in the night and move.

I find passion flower tea (or some of the leaves in a cigarette) are perfect for helping with sleep, its a muscle relaxant and quite effective it also doesn't leave you with the difficulty staying awake the following day. the effect is very short lived you have your tea and go to straight to bed no interruptions.

the reason I like it so much is it isn't like prescribed sleepers it doesn't knock me out if something happens during the night they can still wake me.

i have a horrible time relaxing to go to sleep unless i drug myself to the point that i will fall asleep right away. i used to find that the longer i layed there trying to go to sleep, that more and more body parts would start to hurt. my neck almost ALWAYS is uncomfortable to get in to any comfortable position. in fact, sometimes lying down will give me a headache, then i have to get up and take more pain killers and sit up in the rocker with a heating pad on my neck until i am nodding off. lately i have been trying to bunch a feather pillow under the crook of my neck, which sometimes will help. sometimes putting pressure with the edge of my hand against the base of my skull helps---but i won't fall asleep like that----i just can't imagine how my hand would feel when i woke up!! i prop pillows around, too, to try and get comfortable.

i've also found that too many pain killers can leave me feeling comfortable and pain free---but unable to sleep. i almost always wake up with a pretty bad headache. i tell my husband to wake me up if he ever sees that i have rolled over to sleeping on my stomach--that is murder on my neck.

lately i have been taking benadryl and it seems to help me get sleepy enough.(but i'm also taking norco, soma and clonazepam)

i've heard that xyrem is supposed to be one of the best sleep medications for people with fibromyalgia----but trying to get a doc to prescribe it is another story----if you can even afford it after that. i really wish i could try it.

my best trick for functioning in the morning is to have my husband wake me up somewhere between 4:30-5:30 so i can take my pain killers and my stimulant (vyvanse) then i crawl back into bed and go back to sleep if i can. then i wake up a little later without pain and with my brain functioning. my kids sometimes actually get breakfast cooked for them on those mornings.

I'm often up and down all night as I have a difficult time getting comfortable enough to sleep. I've tried different pain meds and I've either had bizarre side effects (like with Ambien) or they just don't work at all (like with a bunch of others). I've tried different pain meds off and on, but the ones that give me enough relief to fall asleep wear off and I don't stay asleep. Also, I'm not really comfortable taking meds that knock me out when I have kids as I want to be able to wake up if they need me or if I need to be able to be alert quickly at night in case of an emergency because we moms are always on call (as you know!). Sometimes I try to take a hot bath at night once the kids are asleep with some soothing music and tea just to help me calm down and relax and I add some aromatherapy and epsom salts and that will help me a bit. Some people find melatonin helpful but it doesn't help me at all. In comparing notes, I think that I would just need a very large dose as I've taken Rozerem which the pharmacist told me is like Rx strength melatonin, and I need a larger dose of that than most. I sometimes find meditation helpful as well. I try to make my evenings gradually calmer to get in the right frame of mind for sleeping and to try to make my bed as comfortable as possible. In terms of my body position, I try to use pillows and other support to make myself as physically comfortable as possible. My physical therapist was helpful in helping me identify bolsters and other products for this. Then I add in progressive relaxation techniques to try to get different parts of my body to relax. Sometimes these things help and sometimes they don't but when I can get some rest, it's a good thing. Right now I'm awake and exhausted in the wee hours of the morning and that's not a good thing!

I have the same issue. Sometimes it is easier to nap in my chair than sleep at night. I've tried Ambien but it makes me sleep too long and I don't like the side effects. Pain meds help but there are times that I just cannot sleep at night. I've had this problem for quite a while and I'd be interested in hearing strategies for dealing with this.
