I can't believe Califonia did that.it's not right. I have friends that are gay and they should have the same rights as everyone else.

I'm also from Canada, and I really don't understand why people are so adamantly opposed to same sex marriage. Now I don't want to say this to inflame anyone, but I happen to be Christian. However, unlike many of my peers I believe that being gay is a gift from God. So naturally being as we're all the same and equal, why shouldn't we all have equal rights under the law? That would include the right to marry. Society has come a long way. I really think that our governing bodies should re-examine the wording of some of the laws; especially concerning marriage. Then we as a society need to be less rigid as to how we think of this institution. I think someone else said it best, if 2 consenting adults in love want to marry, then let them. Love doesn't have gender preference. It just is. Sorry for the novel. Just wanted to lend support.

Quoting Cherie:

Have you all seen Prop 8 the musical with Jack Black? It's on funnyordie.com

At least it'll probably give you a laugh in a situation that otherwise makes you want to strangle someone...

I wrote an essay on why same sex marriage should be legalized. It's really long but I'll post it if anyone wants. It's pretty thorough and has arguments to counter just about every "reason" I've ever heard anyone use to justify continuing this ridiculous perpetuation of inequality in america...

I've seen that musical and it's hysterical.  I saw it on YouTube.  If you can post a link to your essay, I'd love to read it.

I live in San Diego, CA, a very conservative city, and it was very hard for me to drive past all the Yes on 8 signs. The signs and ads were full of lies and I just wanted to shake all those people for propagating that nonsense. My best friend is gay, the woman who married my husband and I is gay, I have lots of other gay friends, and I just can't understand how people can deny them such a basic human right. Most of my family is pro-gay rights, but it's hard knowing I have relatives who are homophobic. I'm really hoping Prop 8 gets overturned in court.

I'm from Canada and we think Prop 8 is ridiculous. You Americans are a whacky bunch! As a married straight couple, we feel that all consenting adults should be made to suffer equally and we are proud that Canadian law reflects that by sanctioning gay marriage. But seriously, we both come from large families so we each have GLBT siblings who drive our parents just as crazy as our straight siblings so we stick together and fight the good fight, right?

I live in California and I have no clue. I do know that the Pro Prop 8 people had very slick ads that were not countered until it was too late. I live in Orange County (very much Yes on 8 territory), but I was happy to see that the city I live in (Irvine) went no on Prop 8 and also went for Obama. My happiness in seeing Obama be our president has been seriously buzzkilled by Proposition 8.

I still can't believe it, myself. I never thought in a million years that a state like CA would ban gay marriage, while my home state of CT has not.

It was pretty shocking. The biggest problem was that hispanic and black voters still vote very conservatively on social issues, but voted for Obama for all the right reasons.

We didn't do very well getting out our message in the black and hispanic communities, and we're going to have to do better next time.

I just got back from a protest in Silverlake. I don't know if we're changing any minds, but it made me feel a little better.
