It depends on rib cage tats some say they hurt...some say it tickles. My youngest son's father is a tattoo artist so I get to see alot of awesome artwork. My lower back was my first tattoo I got it done before I had children so I didnt know true pain so I concider that my most painfull, but I have since gotten more on my entire left leg..and they werent that bad, it was an annoyance more than painfull.

I have 9 too and I want ALOT more LOL. The worse one for me was my neck, its was horrible. I have one behind my ear and I didn't even feel that one. I have 1 on each forearm, one on my left wrist, one on each triceps, one on my chest and one on my shoulder blade. I hear the side tatts hurt a lot. I want a side piece too :)

my most painful spot is the calf right underneath the knee, didnt like it that much at all, only got the outline done, got a few more since that, my boyfriend does them so it kind of works out, i have tattoos on all my limbs, kind of hard to describe where they are, i got them every where besides the ribs, i have heard different responses about the ribs, some say it hurts and some says it doesnt, a few tattoo artist that i talk to say if you are ticklish in a spot on your body its more then likely is going to hurt more, not sure if its true bout everyone

I have 6. One on each wrist, one on the outside of my bicep, one on my lower back, one on my shoulder blade and one on my calf. The one that's hurt the most to me was the lower back.

ya my back piece broke out in gross boil like things and my foot swelled to the size of a sub sandwich but my hip (which is only black ink) was fine

I also think I am allergic to the ink.......but only the colour ink. I have four and the black ones didn't have any reaction, but I got color on my last one and my skin broke out in this weird rash....it almost looked like a bunch of pimples they didn't hurt or anything, but it kind of bothered me, but they eventually went away. I think that was my weirdest tattoo reaction wise.

i have three one on my back...didnt hurt.. and its a big piece....one on my hip...it tickled....and one on the top of my foot....that one stung....my issues are as addicted as i am to them im allergic to the ink so i get a bad reaction

I have both shoulder blades extending over my shoulders and down nearly to my elbows.
I have a large star on each elbow, and my knuckles are tattooed.
I have both sides of my belly and the middle of my belly extending down into my pubes.
Right inner thigh, and right leg from knee all the way around and down to the ankle.
Left calf has a design covering about the size of my hand. And my left butt cheek has a small design as well.

The spots that hurt the most for me are sides of the belly from bottom of rib cage to the hip and the backs of my calves. Both really hurt during healing too. I thought my elbows would hurt, but not at all, backs of the arms though, yeeouch.

I only have 3 (two of which are technically made into one chest piece tattoo by mirroring images). i would have to say my chestpiece hurt the most as it's on very tender skin! They are nautical stars with flourishes just beneath my collarbone with the flourishes stretching sideways to my shoulder and into the center of my chest, but don't actually touch.

I have four tattoos: one on my wrist, one on my foot, one on my lower back, and one up my right side.......I think it all depends on how your body with what will hurt the most.....honestly the one on my lower back hurt the most because right over the spine was sooooo horrible! I actually didn't have a hard time with the one on my side the bloodlining that they did was the worst part of it other than that when it was down by my stomach it actually tickled....after a while I just became numb to everything because the tat took hours......I think it was worth it, but most people I know say that the side is the worst thing they have ever had tattooed I think I was just lucky that it wasn't so bad for me!

i have i think 8 now.. i have both wrist, lower back, chest, forearm, back of my neck, and my calf. the most painful for me was my calf, it was a custom job, it took about 6 hours, we pretty much did the outline and then just went with whatever to fill it in. it looks amazing but damn it hurt!!!

I am pretty covered. My left arm is sleeved. My back is covered. I have tats on my ankles in & out. Behind my ears. Tops of my feet. & 2 of my fingers & rib cage.Oh ya & the back of my neck. By far my rib & spine were the worse.

I've got 7. Angel in memory of a friend who passed away on my right back shoulder, tribal on my left bicep, Japanese Kanji fro 'power' on the back of my neck, Aries symbol inner left wrist, first two kids' footprints birth dates and names on the right side of my back, flowery pattern on the top of my left foot and the word 'outcast' on my shoulder blades. (also have tongue, labret and eyebrow pierced) I think it is a tie between my foot and my 'outcast' that hurt the worse. the skin on the foot is a lot thinner and therefore closer to bone. And most of my 'outcast' tattoo is on the spine



I just had my 3rd child so need to fit his footprints birth date and name somewhere. I also have plans for some song lyrics on the top of my right foot, plans for 2 anklets one on each foot and an ivy pattern on my right bicep.

i have a large tattoo on my upper back, basically takes the entire area above my bra and between the straps. it took seven hours to do. (all in one sitting?!? wtf was i thinking!!??) the worst parts were around the shoulder blades, particularly the shading. which also happened to be in the last 2 hours, so the length of time under the gun may have had something to do with it as well.

I have 4 tattoos. One on ankle, breast, ring finger,and side. Up my ribcage. That hurt the worse for me. My husband said that was the worst for him also. Good Luck!

I have 19 tattoos... the most painful ones were on the inside of my upper arm... very sensitive because the skin's so thin. Plus a lot of it was shading so that made it worse. Other somewhat painful areas were the middle of my upper back especially on the spine (wasn't too bad but it took 5 hours so the pain wore on me), also the ankle - some spots were awful! Some of my favorite spots I've been tattooed were on my upper arm, calf, and nape - they felt really good to me!

I have around 85 hours. 3/4 of my back. One side of my ribs (from hip to armpit). Two on my belly- one above, one below my bellybutton. Almost all of my belly really. One I sat for 6 1/2 hours straight on! About 75% done on my right arm sleeve. The unfinished part is outline. And the inside of my bicep on my left arm.
And the absolute worst spot was a measly little hour on my sternum. But YIKES! That was rough. My arms locked with each stroke. Ribs can be rough. But remember 1/2 the pain is in your head. Just relax and tell yourself it doesn't hurt. :)

I have 9 as well. a star on each of my fingers on my right hand, A spider web on the top area of my shoulder, a heatagram on my forearm, my zodiac sign on the back of my neck, and a symbol called a Shanti on my wrist. The fingers was the absolute worst. No doubt.

My hubby is a tattoo artist and the other artist he was working with decided to get his ribs done...he described it as the worst pain ever :S and this guy is covered neck to feet...I still want a big piece on my ribs tho! As for me, I have my foot, calf, outer thigh, mid-back, wrist, neck/all along my hair line and the inside of my lip. The one that hurt the most for me was the one on my thigh (foot coming in second). It was weird tho, right by my but tickled so much it hurt, the middle part I couldn't feel at all, and the last part, closest to the front of my leg hurt so much that I cried. I also found that it will hurt more the closer you get to your period...two weeks after is the best time to get one lol. My hubby said that so far for him he's found his hand has been the most painful (right over the knuckles).

I've heard various things on the side/ribcage...you know it's going to hurt to some degree, think it just depends on each person's tolerance. Mostly I've heard it hurts like hell! lol but would I do it, sure. I watched a guy get one there, when I was doing my 2nd sitting for my back, and this man cried! But it was also his first, bad idea for a first haha.

The place that hurt for me was my 2nd a butterfly under my navel. My 1st is a dragon on my neck, 3rd my regret-a shamrock on my hand (home done-bad idea!), 4th my back dragon and fairy theme, 5/6th a nautical star above each elbow....with more to follow!

I say if you really want it, and you have a good idea/something you can look at and not regret--GO FOR IT! It will be worth it in the end! ;-}

I have 6 tattoos, A lot of them are located on my left shoulder/Back shoulder blade. But the ones that hurt the most for me were the two I have one my stomach/side/rib cage. Just when they hit that first bone on my rib cage...tears actually came to my eyes. Luckily I had a hat on and pulled it over my face so no one saw, haha.

I have three atm - my first one on my lower back hurt the worst for me, not sure if it was because it was the first or what but I had tears rolling down my cheeks on that one! I then got my right side done from about the third lowest rib down to even with my butt cheek (but not on my butt - does that make sense?) Anyway, that one didn't bother me nearly as much - even over the ribs - except for one spot on my hip that made a nerve freak out! My third was my upper left arm and that was a piece of cake!

I have one on my tummy a little below and to the right of my belly button. It hurt the most of all 5. It was even worse because I had to lay on my back with a lumbar pillow under the small of my back, that was pretty uncomfortable and I was happy the tat only took 45 minutes

I only have 4, so far the ones that hurt the most are the ones on my shoulder blade, my first. My first was a sun/moon with my older two daughters names and bdays in it, it hurt like hell and took about 4 hours when it only should've taken half that time. My 2nd I added onto it my youngest DD's name (added her name with stars above it and her bday with stars under it) then I got one on/around my ankle (dog tags with mine and DH's nicknames/wedding date) and one on my right wrist, that was the least painful.

I have 11...I have one on each ankle, one side of left thiegh, 1 on left upper arm, 1 on lower back, 2 that cover right side of my back, 1 on left side of back, 1 on my butt, 1 on each breast....the ones on my chest hurt the most and were the hardest to heal for some reason and they are the smallest of them all. I am planning to have more....my daughter is going to design them and my step son is going to do the tattoo.....great having a tattoo artist for a kid...lol

I personally have seven tattoos. Three on the upper arms, one on the outside of each calf, one on the outside of each thigh and one on my ankle. By far the worse one was on my ankle. I have heard that getting tatted on the ribs really hurts but since I have not experienced it myself it would be hard to say for sure. Apparently the ones on the outside of my thighs was supposed to hurt but I didn't feel a thing to be honest. The next two I am getting (one for each child) will be on the inside of my wrist....we will see how much that one stings...lol

I have got 4 and working on my 5th-- My left calf has one on either side, one on my right shoulder and one on my neck, right below my shirt line. For me- the tat on my neck hurt the most. My 5th will go on the outside of my right calf and will cover most of it..... I cannot stop...

Where on the side? Do you mean your rib cage? Because the rib cage is really sensitive and its going to be painful. My sister got her left side of her rib cage done and she said it hurt from the moment he started to the moment he was done...



I have 1 on right wrist, 2 on left biscep, 1 on right bicsep, 1 on cleavage, 1 right calf, 1 left calf, 3 on left ankle and 2 on right hip. And, the coverup is on my hip also which was the most painful because I was 4 months pregnant when I got the coverup. Big mistake, what was I thinking? The worst place is the hip and my biggest mistake because its my ex-boyfriend's name that I had to cover -up. And, Im still not done with the cover-up. I need it to be fixed still... I want to get more, I want to get my son's face done on my shoulder blade and something for my daughter not to sure about her, maybe her hands or foot steps... I love fairies and angels & maybe some stars....
