Hey Ladies,

do any of you have tattoo's over stretch marks...or know of anybody that has?

Im having issues with coming to terms with not being able to wear what I want as I'm very insecure about my stretch marks on my belly.
So mum suggested since I wanna get another tattoo soon ( i recently got one of my sons name on my foot) that maybe I could get my tummy done to make the stretch marks less noticeable...

but im worried that it may not be able to be done...

what are your views or experiences on this subject?

My husband also does tattoos. He has done a few on me in areas that have stretch marks and to me it hurt worse in those areas. I am covered from the tops of my thighs to about my belly button with stretch marks and I have a tramp stamp on my back that he put over stretch marks. He said it was difficult because the needle kept jumping when it hit my stretch marks, then again mine are pretty deep and big. If your are smaller it may not be as bad.

I have seen on L.A. Ink a woman had her burn scars tattooed over. They were on her mid-section and it looked pretty good. Hid a large number of them. So I am saying that it could be done!

Tattoos will make the stretch marks less noticable. They will not disappear, but do not stand out as much when they are covered by ink. It does take a little more work to get ink into the stretch mark areas, therefore a little more painful. But in the long run, I think you will be happy with the results. I have flowers going up my front to side and it does mask the stretch marks. Nothing will make them disappear though. You will always know they are there.

Its possible, but it hurts a lot. I got a tattoo of a garter going around my thigh, and my inner thigh had a couple of stretch marks. I think it bruised a bit. Its possible, but it hurts more.

I dunno bout getting one over the stretch marks but I have a stretch mark over a tattoo and its not pretty. And unless your gonna get a tummy wide tattoo I dont think its gonna make much of a difference.

Stretch marks usually will not hold ink very well. I tryed to get a tattoo over some of the stretch maks that i have and the ink wouldn't hold at all.

i have a tatoo on my lower back, with my pregnancy i suffer from sever stretch marks, starting from my knees all the way up to my armpits, how ever i try not to let these bother me, ive since come across a product called Epi Derm, it works wonders!!, to answer your question, id say go for it!! it may hurt a wee bit more but going through labour was nothing like it :), my tattoo has got stretch marks through it and it does look a little silly and wonky, but i had my tat before becoming pregnant- Depending on how old your baby is you could wait a while and see if they settle a little more :)

I just recently got a tat over the stretch marks on my inner hip. It was my 3rd tat and the most painful one as well. Yes it can be done and yes the artist will tell you that it is alot harder to do. My stretch marks were pretty wide but not very deep. I'm not a very big person. This tat also took quite a bit longer to heal than all my other tats (I have 4) and there was quite a bit more ink blead out durning the healing process. We all know thats its not good to get a new tat wet but in this area its a bit harder to avoid and when the tat on your stretch mark gets wet it does bubble up alot more than the other areas did. Most artists will put more ink than necessary on the stretch mark for this reason. Also I was warnder that if I do need a touch up that its going to be quite a bit harder so you have to be very carefull to blot your tat dry after your shower.

From what I have heard from some friends to do tattoos, the tattoos can be done but they are not as nice since the skin is distended. Also are you planning to have any more kids?? If so picture this....stretched tattoo over stretch marks...no so good. For your stretch marks may I recommend using Bio-Oil....worked wonders on mine and also on a few scars that I had. Good luck.

My husband actually does tattoos. It is possible but it might be hard and it might be more painful than a regular tattoo. It depends on hope big and deep the stretch marks are. It is so much harder because the skin has to be stretched and stretch mark skin's elasticity is not good. The best thing to do is to go to a few reputable shops in your area, show them, and ask their opinion. It doesn't cost anything to ask. Hope this helps!
