It's a rumor- I have a lower back tattoo (what my pals fondly call the "tramp stamp") and got an epidural with no problem. My tat was 3 years old when I delivered my son.

What I have been told by an anesthesiologist is that you cannot get an epidural if your tattoo has been done in the previous six months to the epidural.

I would say it is not true. I have a huge tat on my lower back and I just had a c-section.

ive got one on my lower back and i had an epidural , except the stupid nurse kept stabbing me in the wrong part of the spine after telling me all the complications that could happin , she then had to get the supervisor to do it who slipped it in without me feeling it , she then said in a huff " well her tattoo musnt be in the middle of her back then " WTF lol.

I have an extremely large tattoo on my back (starting on my lower back and extending up to the high-mid part of my back) and I had an epidural. They say if you got a tattoo a year or less prior to the birth, they do not recommend getting the epidural.

I also have a tattoo on my lower back and there were no issues with me getting an epidural either.

I have two tattoos on my lower back and I got an epidural and that statement is completely false. Hope that helped you out.
