I work for an agency school that serves individuals with disabilities. We do not close unless the malls do. They post a "no transportation" day which means that staff have to report and parents are allowed to drop their kids off. We did get 2 days off when Hurricane Ike swept through Ohio and cut out our power for a few days in September... But basically if the malls are open, so are we!

sorry that is just to keep the kids indoors.. we dont shut the schools for cold weather, only major ice and snow storms. we are like the post office, neither sleet nor snow....

Our district is at least -20 with the wind chill. We have been home for 2 days now. Of course we will have to make these 2 days and the snow day in December up sometime. YUCK!!

Don't know if this is true, but the word around my school was that the wind chill only needed to be below -5 degrees!  We may be sleeping in tomorrow.

At our school it's -15 with the wind chill - give or take, but it may be different at different schools. I don't think it's universal.
