It's nasty and UGLY. You should see the letters to the editor in the paper...hear the talk....the community....our board of education....the games our superintendent is playing....everyone seems to HATE teachers. I stopped reading the newspapers because of it. I started taking my stomach medication. The school board just negotiated a big fat raise for our superintendent so she'll now make...get this $207,000 next year. Our administrators negotiated a big fat 7% raise but they want to freeze our salaries next year in the middle of our contract AND open our contract and change our health insurance to a high deductible HSA account! Now, we're actually not opposed to freezing our salaries to do our part to help our community but if that's the case then to be fair EVERYONE needs to do their part. Our union said NO WAY to the HSA and DOUBLE NO WAY to opening the contract and why should we freeze our salaries when the economy seems only to be hurting the teachers? So the community sees us as the bad guys especially because our superintendent put us up on a bullseye TARGET by immediately feeding the story to the press (no mention of her fat old raise and her pal's raises either) and now we're hated. She even twisted the facts by raising our starting salary by $10,000 or it was "mistake" by the reporter that inflamed the public. It's horrible. Its to the point where I don't want to tell anyone what I do for a living! Is anyone else dealing with this???
