Hi-

Wish I was having a great summer; however I get to study for both praxis exams inorder to be "Highly Qualified". So sad to be at home and want to play and spend time with the fam, but have to study for a test that doesn't cover my content knowledge. My question is when bush passed the highly qualified in (2003)? Why is it that the standerdized test scores that are required to teach are different from State to State? Should students in Idaho have less qualified teachers? Does anyone know why this is so?/\

I'm taking the 0353 and 0352 on Saturday. I guess the individual states were able to choose the scores that they considered as passing. I remember taking my Praxis I and missing passing my Math by 1 point. Maryland was in the 5 states that require the highest scores in the US.

Took 0522 and 0014 today...I wouldn't recommend back to back tests, but I can atleast relax for the next month... and hopefully beyond (because I passed them both)!

I agree Wendy! I taught PPCD (Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities) for several years where teaching a little one to spoon feed themselves was quite an accomplishment. And they want them have letter ID and sounds?

Thanks for your support Wendy...I'm just getting ready to take a practice exam for 0522. I love Sped and my student and they have all made such progression. Most of my students have Cerebral Palsy and all of them have learned a very strong yes/no by shaking head no...or looking to their left at a no pec pic, or saying unh unh! and yes by shaking head up and down, raising a thumb, or lifting their hand up. They are all working mainly on self help goals and vocational simple bilateral tasks, or are involved in a sensory group! We have so much fun and I know it's where I'm suppose to be...It would be nice if Obama did away with this "highly qualified" crap but he has more important things to do now, plus the senate passed it so I'm sure iti's here for good!

Thanks for your post...i know I'm not alone and that feels good...I know of a teacher with her masters who has had to take 0014 12 times. Crazy!

I don't know and I am so frustrated with this no child left behind crap. We are special education teachers! We SPECIALIZE in trying to get our students to learn, to improve their lives, and to hopefully be productive and contributing citizens. I could care less if they could pass an Algebra 1 exam. What is it going to do for them, when they may only have the skills to be a greeter at a local store? I hope you pass your test, as we NEED dedicated teachers to meet the stupid criteria set forth by others that are so far removed from the school system it is pitiful.
