I would DEFINITELY wait until you've had your baby shower, which I'm assuming wouldn't be till around 7 mos or so.  Trust me, people will give you a lot of stuff.  Then after that you can figure out what you still need.

when is your due date? i'm due march 18th, i think we are pretty close?! I started last time once I knew the gender, and on Nov. 9th we'll find out the gender of this baby, so I'm sure I'll buy a few things. Especially if it's a boy, since we have a girl. But big things like crib can wait a bit!

Once one is in the second trimester...it is a good time. Definitely register for EVERYTHING! Even little things like soaps and such. Then, purchase things during your normal shopping routine. When you see a great sale on size 1 or 2 diapers that is what I did. I did this for almost everything. then, once added to my baby showers I was fully prepared for the first year and did not purchase much of anything. This is also a good way to save money in the long run rather than purchasing things once your newborn comes along.

I would hold off on buying for the baby, but definitely start looking at setting up your registry. It's so exciting to be pregnant, and tempting to buy everything, but I would honestly hold off for a bit. We didn't purchase anything for our twins until after my baby shower. That way I knew what we needed that we hadn't been given as gifts.

I didn't buy hardly anything for our little one. But I did make a few items, like curtians for the nursery, a quilt for her crib, crib bumpers, and a couple little outfits. Between the multiple baby showers, hand me downs from excited friends, and the constant gifts from family that were so excited for the next generation, we were pretty much all set. We only needed a couple of things after she was born. If you do shop, check out the second hand stores. You can find really wonderful things there for quite a bargian.

I started buying diapers along the way because you can never have too may diapers. Then I started buying gender specific after the sono.

I started buying stuff after we found out the gender of our child and what we were getting from relatives. WHen I was out shopping I would look at the clearance rakes and get stuff that way. It worked for e and I didn't have to go out and buy a bunch all at once.

I satisfied my urge to buy baby things by picking out socks or booties. I bought my unborn son his first pair of Boston Celtics socks at about 12 weeks and I've been looking at them smiling ever since. I bought a couple of bibs to tell my husband what we were having and since I am a cross stitcher, I picked out a baby sampler and bibs to cross stitch while I wait. I will be setting up a registry soon so I can feel like I'm shopping but not.

if you see something that you particularly like, or if there is a special offer then why not start buying, i bought my cot and changing table when i was 14 weeks only because in september in France there are always great deals that you just don't get for the rest of the year, congratulations and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy
