Hi ladies,
I had a WAH job for the last 4 years (between two companies), I was a computer person and it was nice because while I did have to have DD in daycare, I was able to do it as much or little as needed depending on my work schedule.
However I was laid off a few weeks ago, I'm 8.5 mo pregnant and it came immediately after I notified them of the pregnancy (perfect timing huh?). I do have a nice offer on the table right now but it requires travel so that would mean two kidos in full time care.
First that just hurts my gut to be away from my babies and the COST of the care is HUGE. When I do the math after daycare and taxes my income would be the same if I took care of 4 kids in my home (and I'd get the benefit of tax deductions) and stay at home with my kids and have playmates for DD who is 3.
I've purchased some books about starting a daycare and think I have all of my policies and everything squared away.
I was planning on opening up after my maternity leave so that gives me time to take classes, organize the room for the daycare and advertise.
My husband is not opposed to the general idea but he is VERY concerned about steady income flow. He is worried I won't be able to find anyone, or that they might leave etc. While that is part of running your own business, I have talked with plenty of other daycare providers around here that are turning folks away! Mostly there is a shortage of people who take infants and I wanted to specialize in that area since I only need a few kids to meet my income goal. I LOVE babies where as some people it is just not their thing!
Anyway, anyone have any advice on helping out with calming my hubby's fears?
