lionbrand is my favorite, and they are very reliable w/less mistakes in the patterns.

lionbrand, redheart and bernat have some patterens for free. Like Jamie and Amy have said Ravely is a great site.

check out knittingpatterncentral.com as well. it has everything broken up by category and some really cute things as well.

lionbrand.com is free, but you have to register. you can always google "free crocheted afghan patterns."

you could always try a general search, though you need to weed through at least a few non-free patterns.

I have to second the Ravelry suggestion. It's rapidly becoming THE pattern repository online. They even have links to popular yarn company patterns (like Garn Studios and Lion Brand). The search function for narrowing down your criteria and craft is an awesome time saver as well.

I would suggest going to Ravelry.com and joining that site if you haven't already. You can do extensive searches on what you are looking for exactly, whether they are free or not, even yarn weight, hook/knitting needle size, etc. It's amazing. That is pretty much my only pattern resource anymore...it's easier just to go there and look it up, even if it does take me to another site!
