Patterns on the internet
I have to second the Ravelry suggestion. It's rapidly becoming THE pattern repository online. They even have links to popular yarn company patterns (like Garn Studios and Lion Brand). The search function for narrowing down your criteria and craft is an awesome time saver as well.

I would suggest going to Ravelry.com and joining that site if you haven't already. You can do extensive searches on what you are looking for exactly, whether they are free or not, even yarn weight, hook/knitting needle size, etc. It's amazing. That is pretty much my only pattern resource anymore...it's easier just to go there and look it up, even if it does take me to another site!
