Hi all I am new to Circle of Moms and to this group! I crochet, and try to knit and love it! I am left handed tho so I have hit a few snags and don't know very many stitches so will be great to have a sounding board!

Glad to meet you all and hope to get to know each of you better!

Hi..this is such a great idea.  I was just on Lion Brands website earlier looking for a prayer shawl pattern for my daughter.  I am right handed, but I knit backwards, or so my daughter says.  She is 17 and she is the one who taught me to knit two years ago..what a great way for us to connect.  I look forward to sharing stories and patterns with you all.

I too am left handed. When I learned to crochet I sat facing a right handed person, which was great to start with but made it terribly difficult to learn to read a pattern. I have been crocheting since my girls were little (they are now 26 and 22) and I just go from any pattern, it may seem backwards but it always turns out right. Most stitches are worked the same we just do it going in the opposite direction. I have tried some left handed crochet projects and found them to be very hard to follow, I guess it's all in how you adapt to the craft.

I'm left handed and I taught myself to knit. I just found out that i knit using the continental method. I guess since I taught myself using a book, I hold my yarn in my left hand like a right-handed knitter.

So, Rochelle, do you knit continental or english method? being left handed i would think that english would be easier, but I was wondering.

Hi Rochelle and Michelle. I love to crochet and have been doing it for several years now, much more before I had children! Michelle has it right on the nose. Grab yourself a really great book with many stitches and one that will teach you the left handed versions as well. You can also hit up the yarn websites, such as Lions Brand, and they will send you "stitch of the month" emails. I save the PDF file and reference them whenever I am looking to try something new.

hi, i'm michelle. if u want to learn new stitches, at walmart in their crafts section, they sell some pretty cheap crochet books, several of which are nothing but different stitches. when i started again, i couldn't remember any of the stitches, so i actually had to go out and buy books to remind myself how to do something other than a single crochet.
