I have a son 09.26.04 who had major eating issues he ate baby fooduntil he was 5. Saw many doctors & specialists, therapists, etc over it. The change happened when we finnally got frustrated with the standstill we were at & changed doctors, got a different opinion on it. The new doc let us try a medicine that has a side effect of making one extremely hungry. We were at a dead end so willing to try anything we hadn't tried before....well, you can imagine our surprise at the change we saw after just 3 doses. It was like we just switched the hungry light on & he started eating. In his case there was do difinative clinical diagnosis as to why he would struggle with eating but my husband & I believe it started with his long term hospitalisation @ birth & lack of feeding therapy in the beginning when the trouble first started emerging. We think it was mostly psycological as there was nothing actually physically wrong with him and that what started out as one problem in the beginning led to this long term food & swallowing phobia. The medicine is called Cyproheptadine not sure if that is how you spell it but it is pronnounced sy-pro-hep-ta-deen. Please don't think that I am saying go out & medicate your kid, but I cant imagine where we'd be right now if we hadn't tried it.
