My daughter is having a hard time with talking & disrupting in class. Is anyone else having a problem with their 6 yr olds doing this in school? Is it an age thing? Any suggestions on punishment for this?

Heck yeah it is common! The teacher should be able to handle it. My daughter's school punishes with behavior cards. When a child gets her card pulled, she loses the privilege of a treat from the treasure box on Fridays. Generally a school has something in place to deal with discipline issues. Maybe 3-4 different card levels (by color) with the final one being a visit to the principal.

I wouldn't punish her because you aren't there with her to see her misbehave but the teacher is and will deal with it at that time. Delayed punishment at age 6 is confusing and misunderstood for a child. If the teacher says she needs help with your child's behavior issues, ask for specifics and then TALK to your child about it. I would explain the importance of school and listening. Kids in elementary have to learn that it isn't like preschool or daycare. It isn't playtime all the time. Rules are in place as are consequences (in the school).

I am a lunchmom at my daughter's shool and believe me, the kids can barely contain themselves throughout the day!
