Cutting Off A Disabled Child's Medical Asst?

My daughter Jeveah who is 2 1/2 years old, has DS & just recently I found out that the State cut off all her Medical Asst. without giving me any notice. Meaning I can't get her G-Tube feedings & supplies, medicines, doctors appts, even the school she attends is affected. When I lived in South Carolina I never had to worry about her Insurance, We move to Pennsylvania & I have gone through so much BULL!! My question is, Are They Allowed To Cut A Disabled Child's Medical Assistance?

Hello Edith. I can relate to your situation. My son had health insurance through his fathers work. However after he got laid off we had no health insurance for him. I am self employed and have private insurance for foe myself however I was not able to add my son because he was considered high risk. for 3 years I paid every single Dr.s appt. I was told that my son would qualify for Med i cal becasue of his downs however that was not the case for us. When I tried applying for Med ical I was denied based on my income. A close friend of mine who is receiving SSI mentioned that if I applied for my sons SSI I would automatically get med i cal so I did just that and 2 months later he was insured. Med ical obviously does not compare to private health insurance however its better than nothing.
Since the new health reform change I was able to get Jacob private health insurance through BLue Cross.

I live in NY also and we have insurance through my husbands work. But when my son stopped receiving SSI we filled out a Medicaid waiver for him to still receive Medicaid. We have a Medicaid coordinator also who assists in many of my sons needs. So that may be something to check into. Just start calling people and find out! Good luck!

not sure i live in NY and have insurance and can't get assistance for ethan until he turns 3. till then we have to pay what my insurance doesn't. I can't imagine they can't cut it off without any other insurance. hope things get better. best wishes and prayers
