Hi everyone,
I'm a full time college student and mother of 2 (ages 3 years and 22months). I've been offered before to do "at home"/"online" jobs but I'm so skeptical and afraid of being scammed. Though I do need to get a job quick so we have the money to pay our bills. Anyone have any advice? I live in the Denver, CO area.....

I have a disabled daughter and started in this international home based business over 14 years ago.
An 18 year old global home-based business in the exploding wellness industry with over 1 million associates & growing, patented products, easy duplicable system in 20 countries, no deliveries, work around your own families commitments, no special experience or skill required, training in the privacy of your own home, travel holiday incentives to be won, a rewarding business that makes a difference in other people's lives.... As well as your own!

Hi ladies!

I am a stay at home Mommy and have been for 6 years. Before children I sold "lotions and potions", did surveys, spent an entire weekend doing website snapshots, etc. etc. I stayed away from it all because I really thought that you had to know someone to get a real job. That was until my husband got the call for his layoff after we were months away from realizing our financial dreams I decided to take action. I got serious, did research, and found this AMAZING company. It is work...no one is going to immediatly give me a check just because. The time I invest is an investment in my future for my family. And I'd rather invest in my future while my kids are playing or napping in the next room (which is what I do) rather than while I'm away from them and they are in the care of strangers. I could go on and on however I'll just send you my web address and you can make an educated decision like I did.

See me at www.freedomathometeam.com/tlemos to read all about the company, and if you are interested shoot me a personal email and we can chat at a time that works for you.

Hope to hear from you soon!!!

I see that you have a lot of replies already. I will keep this short. The company I am with has a few options. You can purchase their products at a retail price, purchase at a wholesale price, share with your family and friends, as well as anyone you see who has a need, and have a supplemental income, or work more and make a residual, consistent income. The great thing is that it is entirely up to you. The company I am with is doTERRA, and they provide Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade essential oils. Essential oils have been used for centuries for all kinds of health concerns! In my family, I have used peppermint for my daughter's fever, lavender for our sunburns, the On Guard protective blend for sickness, Serenity and Balance, along with bergamot for the uplifting I need for the day! There are more experiences I could share, but I wrote I'd keep this short. I guess another point to make is that you need to have an experience with whatever it is you are sharing with others. If you want to try a sample, I can share my experiences with you. It may be for you, it may not be. Shoot me a line if you want to! rachel215@hotmail.com

Feel exactly the same way but there are some legitimate ways of making money at home such as transcribing, call centre work from from home, bidding for services on Freelance sites etc.

As a rule of thumb don't pay any fees for at home or online work or give out personal details.

WOW! I see SOOO many of you are skeptical of work at home stuff.. I dont blame you. I was too because I have been taken by a few scams myself. I know that it is VERY hard finding an online' job' that is not a scam but there are plenty of GREAT work at home business opportunities. I found one that allows me to be home with my kids. I dont have to go outside of the house for parties or anything like that. I do it all from the computer and my phone. We dont do cold calling, there are no products or inventory, no paperwork. We have a REAL service that I have personally used and saved Hundreds of dollars using. We do have a VERY small investment and its to OWN your own business.. Its all tax deductible and can get started for as little as $50. Here is my 24 hour overview that you can listen to at your convenience.. 951-262-3335 and if you feel it is something you want to know more about then just request an interview at http://www.freelifenow.info/request. I am a wife and mother daily navigating the balance between work and family. The key to success with direct selling/network marketing or any other work at home business is to treat it as a business. take a look at the below info from the Direct selling Association.
About the Direct Selling Industry

I am currently proud to be a stylist with Stella & D0t. www.stelladot.com/stacycava

The Growing Industry of Direct Sales

Did you know that more than 13.6 million people participated in direct selling in 2004 in the United States alone? Direct selling is a rapidly growing industry: U.S. sales totaled $29.7 billion in 2004, up from $24.5 billion just five years earlier, with more than 74 percent of the American public having purchased goods or services through direct selling. Worldwide sales are also strong with more than $99 billion in sales.

Direct Sales Builds Opportunity for Women

An estimated 13.6 million people are involved in direct selling in the U.S., and more than 54 million worldwide. People from literally all walks of life, of all ages, are successful in direct sales. About 73 percent of those working in direct sales are women, ten percent are African American, six percent are Latino and three percent are Asian, Native American or other. Many people start part-time, and later leave their other careers when direct selling becomes more lucrative. The vast majority are independent business people - they are micro-entrepreneurs whose purpose is to sell the product and/or services of the company they voluntarily choose to represent - not employees of the company. Approximately 90 percent of all direct sellers operate their businesses part-time.

More People Purchase Through Direct Sales than Television and Online Shopping Combined!

According to recent surveys, 55 percent of Americans have purchased goods or services through direct sales. That's more than the number who have purchased through television shopping and on-line computer services combined.

Information provided by the Direct Selling Association

I know this sounds cliche, but beware. You are right in being skeptical b/c so many are fake. If a business offers you a job, as tedious as it might sound, and if you have the time somewhere, check withthe BBB. Any legit business usually will register with them. That doesn't mean it isn't, but if it is, or if it has complaints, you can be sure the BB will probably have it. I can say if it comes from a .uk address or something similar IT IS A SCAM and report them either to the BBB or even your local police dep. Best of luck.

Hey Amanda. I have been working from home as a transcriptionist for 10 years. Not medical, general. I opened the phonebook one day and found companies that did transcription and applied. Actually, I was my company's first telecommuter. And as I said, I've been there ten years. The money isn't fantastic, but it allows me to be here for my kids.

There are numerous websites out there. The first important thing is to know this: NEVER PAY FOR ANYTHING. LOL. I shouted, I know. But it's important. Do not ever pay for information, if you're looking to work for someone else there should be no start up fee. Unless you need equipment, software, etc. My company loaned me a tape transcription machine (that's how long ago it was.) Now everything is done over the internet.

WAHM (stands for Working At Home Mom) is a great site to visit. Click on the telecommute button on the right. They have been in business for years, helping people find a legit work at home job. Craig's List has some, but hundreds of people apply, and I haven't had much luck there.

I guess the first thing to do is decide what you want to do. If you have computer skills you'll find more, obviously. I have sold e-Bay for other people (charging a fee), I have sold used videos, DVDs and books on Amazon.com, I have had this transcriptionist (typist) position. I have also worked mother's hours to get out of the house. Decide what's best for your family and then just hunt it down. Open the Yellow Pages, call people, become creative. Search the web. WAHM and Craig's List are just places to start, but I'm sure there's so much more. Good luck, and if you need any advice from someone who's "in the field" please do not hesitate to e-mail me.

Wishing you the best of luck!

If you have ever thought about medical transcription www.careerstep.com is a great school to go to. It is online which is great for people with kids and its accredited. My mom and I both are starting our courses within the month. There will always be a need for an MT because people will always go to the doctor and the doctors notes will always need to be transcribed. The great thing is, is that you aren't restricted to just your area. You can get clients from all over the world. Let me know how things pan out for you.

I've been working an online/at home job for about 2 years now, and I love it. I have lost 70 pounds and have kept it off for 14 years. This is what I love about my business, I help people do the same thing. Have you considered Herbalife? It is an international company, been in business 30 years, and is traded on the New York Stock Exchange. It is an MLM, but that's ok, they take good care of their distributors. What other company can you qualify for a paid vacation every year? If you are interested in this let me know.

12 Success Factors To Look For When Searching For A Home Business
Share
Thursday, February 25, 2010 at 9:04pm | Edit Note | Delete

1. Company track record - How long has the company you're considering representing been in business? What are the company's annual sales each year since in business? Does the company print average income statistics for business builders? It should and you should ask for them. Proof of long term sales, success and growth is critical with choosing any business.

2. Financially sound - Does the company have outstanding debt? Joining a company that is debt free is something I highly recommend to lessen any risk to you.

3. Strong management team - What are the backgrounds and credentials of the management team? You want to join a company that is run with integrity and strong leadership.

4. Unique consumable products - Are the products of the company, products that people actually need, use, run out of and repurchase month after month. Do the products have any trademarks or patents allowing for exclusive rights meaning no other company can copy them. If the products are not consumable, meaning something that a person would only buy once, then that is a business that will not be viable long term. If the products are consumable, however not necessarily a need, that will lesson your chance for long term success. Products needed, and consumed monthly makes for a solid business model.

5. Wide market appeal - Are the products something everyone needs and uses? If the products are specific for a certain gender, age group or body size for example, you lessen your market as it is not something for everyone.

6. Competitive prices - Are the products comparable in price or less expensive than the competition? If they are too expensive this is not a business that will produce great results.

7. High customer reorder rate - Does the company share it's reorder rate? Meaning how many customers that purchased from the company last month, reorder again the following month? If the re-order rate is low, the business will not be viable as new customers simply replace your old customers producing no real growth or a secure, residual income.

8. Low initial investment - If the cost to join or start is too high it makes for more risk and difficulty in attracting customers and business partners.

9. Low monthly requirement - If there is a high monthly requirement, customers/business builders may end up with an inventory or products they do not need. If there is a low monthly product requirement, then customers are getting what they need for personal use each month, and from a business standpoint you know customers are purchasing each month which creates the security and true residual income.

10. Rewards for leadership development - Does the company reward you for helping others in your business succeed? If there is any way the company could remove business builders from your business because of their success, be very careful about joining. There should never be potential for you to lose great partners.

11. Risk-free - Is everything 100% guaranteed? If not, I would advise against joining?

12. Anyone can be successful - Is the business plan set up for anyone to be successful at any time? If it's a company that says "Ground floor" opportunity, or "Get in Now", be very wary. If only the people who join at the beginning can be successful, then eventually people will get hurt.

Well, how does the company you are with or considering measure up?

Hope this was helpful..:)
