Did anyone ever get a 3D ultrasound? How do they do it?

I wanted one so badly but my insurance wouldn't pay for it.

I had 2 done during my pregnancy. One at about 21 weeks to find out the gender and then another at about 30 ish weeks (she was born the next day!) I had 2 because of health issues. I had gestational diabetes, so my doctor wanted to make sure the baby didn't get to big, if I needed a c-section, etc. My doctor just billed it as 2 regular ultrasounds since my insurance didn't cover the 3-d either :) They are really cool to look at. My baby looked exactly the same as the picture!

I was quite disappointed with the 3d ultrasound i had a 28 weeks. my main reason for going for it was that i desperately wanted to know the gender, and they couldnt tell at my regular ultrasounds. we did find out the sex, and i was very happy about that. but the images we saw of the baby were not very good at all. it totally depends on the baby's positioning and sometimes you just have bad luck! it was an interesting experience, but i would never pay the money to do it again. good luck whatever you decide :)

My OB had the equipment in the office, so that is just how they do the ultrasound. I had gestational diabetes, so I got like 5 or so done. Only 2 of them were with the 3d part turned on though. One was at 12 weeks, and it was kinda creepy. The others were around 28 weeks I want to say and they were AMAZING. I got to see her little face and she looked the same as when she was born.

I got a 3D ultrasound at 30 weeks, which usually isn't the best time to go, because there is less room for the baby to move around...my baby wasn't cooperating very much!!! :P the technician said the best time to go is 27 or 28 weeks. It's just like a normal ultrasound, they tell you at least 20 minutes before your appointment to have something with caffeine in it, like a pop or some chocolate (that way the baby is active and moving around).

It is the most amazing thing, to be able to see what your baby looks like.

The place I went to was only $150, you get a video, pictures....and you can have people come and watch it with you!! It was most definetly worth every pennie saved!

I actually got 2 3D ultrasounds with my son. I only got them, because he was at high risk for down syndrome so we had to go to the genetisist and do the 3D ultrasounds. i had one at 19 weeks and one at 21 weeks or something like that. It was really neat to see. I only got two cuz the first one they couldn't see everything, but they did know he was a boy from the first one. I loved the pictures they gave me of his face although at that time mine looked nothing like my baby did when he was born.

I had one done in my first pregnancy. Lucky for us our doctor had just gotten the equipment in and wanted to play around with it. She printed off just a couple pictures for us. We are expecting again and I would love to have the full 3d session, but the cost is an issue for us too.

We paid out of pocket for the 3D ultrasound. Had to go to a company that did them exclusively, because it wasn't an option my ob gave me. It was expensive, but a fun experience. We had it done around 22 weeks because we wanted to know the gender, but I've heard the images are much better around the end of the second trimester, like 28-30 weeks.
