So I breast feed my little girl, she has no problem drinking from a bottle, I occasionally gave her breast milk from the bottle with no problem. Last week I tried cereal for the first time and she wasnt ready, she gagged so I figured that I would just try it this week....... DILEMMA...... Now that she gagged on the cereal, she gags on bottles. I can't get her to take a bottle now.....???!!! ARGH!! Help, it is time to go back to work!!!

how old is your daughter? it may not necessarily mean she is not ready maybe she just gagged because she has not had rice cereal before and it was different? why dont you wait a few more weeks if you like or try again now with pureed apple or pear? just see how she goes. with regards to the bottle i cant help you sorry. I was told for the signs to look out for incase mine wasnt ready because shes been on them since 3 months they actually recommended it at this time but just gave me a list of things, i dont fully remember it I just remember them telling me is she got chesty she is not ready

i really understand where your coming from ,our 3month old is taking cerel in his bottles now for probably 3weeks we give him an ounce of rice cereal to 5ounce formula and we also put a baby spoon of stage 1 applesauce in with it to help with consipation, and it has been working great, i know you where talking about bottles and the playtex dropins work great going from breast to bottle, hope this may help if shes not quite ready for the spoon you might could satisfy her with it in her bottle. good luck girl!!!!

Lindsey, I saw you asked about the Adiri bottles - we had them when my son was really little and loved them - they were sooooo good for when he wasn't interested in taking the bottle at all. They're awesome. We did eventually switch to the Avent bottles though. My biggest problem with the Adiri ones was that they were difficult to warm properly.

Did you put the cereal in the bottle? I never put it in my bottle, although I hear moms of doing that. I didn't want my little one getting it confused. I started the cereal in a bowl with pumped breast milk and made it really thin. Then as he got the hang of things I would gradually make it thicker until it became the consistancy of oatmeal. I would add baby food in it too, to help make it a little more flavorful. It also depends on your child, age and attitude. Some babies are content with just milk, so unless she is losing weight then go at her pace.

Thank you, only problem is that it was the Dr Browns bottles that I was using, today I bought some Adiri bottles...... Do you know anything about them?

maybe offer her a different kind of bottle. I really have no idea... maybe the cereal confused her so she isn't ready for as much milk to come down at a time anymore. A different bottle or nipple size might help. I prefer Dr. Browns stage one... that is the only bottle besides Avent that my two boys didnt gag on. Good Luck!
