I am 28 weeks pregnant & going crazy from sleep deprivation. I have this constant pain in my right hip. When i lay at night it gets worse and it causes my leg to tingle and go numb. It also gets real stiff and causes more pain. I talked to my doctor and he said to try hot baths, heating pad, tylenol. None of these have worked.. I was told the numbness was from the baby pressing on my nerve. I have had 3 nights in a row with about 2 hours of sleep. i can't keep this up. Help!!

I used to ice my hip to reduce inflammation and then apply an arnica based cream. It helped a lot.

Thanks everyone! I have tried the whole pillow thing, it doesn't help. Hopefully the dr will be able to help me tomorrow when I go back in and complain. I can deal with the pain and everything during the day. But when I can't sleep because of it, something has to be done. I have a 2 1/2 yr old son to take care of during the day, so I need SOME SLEEP! I never had this when i was pregnant before, and hopefully it won't get worse as some of you said.

i went to see a pre-natal chiropractor because I had bad pain in my left hip. My hips were not aligned and that made me really sore all the time. After the first adjustment I felt so much relief. I was followed once a week until I gave birth. I now go only once a month to keep my hip in check. My chiro gave me exercices to do during my pregnancy and some after I had the baby. My lower back is now stronger from doing the exercises and my hip is less of a problem. Just make sure you inform your GP and OB that you are consulting a chiro. Good luck!

I feel for you. I am 24wks prego with # 3. My first baby made me go numb on the right side of my upper thigh. That is was in 2005, and it never came back. I went to chiropractor as well as had tried all the remedies. The sciatica nerve is to blame for a lot of it. Unfortunately my doctor says the same thing yours does. I sleep with the pillow between my legs and endure the pain. Towards the end of my pregnancies, the pain was much worse, and I was prescribed Vicodin. I'm sorry yo hurt, I thought this was something only I endured. Good luck to you.

My left hip would hurt so bad that I needed my husband to to apply pressure to the middle of my lower back atleast 2-3 times a week. Eventually, I just propped pillows up behind me and slept in a partially sitting up position on the couch and the bed, so that I could get some sleep. I tried the pillow between the legs but my pelvic felt as though it was spreading so bad that I couldn't do it any more. I would just lay up and put a pillow under my knees. Hope this will help you get some ideas.
