How do i get my 6 & 3 yr olds to sleep in?

My kids go to bed at 7:30 sometimes a bit later and they get up at 5:00 most mornings recently its been before 5. I am finding it hard to get up so early as i am pregnant and i find they are so very OVER tired by the time they are sent to bed they wont go to sleep.

Thanx ladies these are all great suggestions. I did try keeping them up later last night they went to bed at 9pm and would u believe it they were both awake at 4:45am i had to go and tell them to go back to sleep, that is when they woke me at 8:40am. Ill keep trying and see how we go :o)

try making it a little darker in their rooms, my daughter goes to bed most nights a 8 unless we are out and not home for bed time. But she was waking up at 6 or 630, i thought it was a bit to bright in her room even with the curtains closed so i covered it will a darker colored blanket but still let in enough light in and now she sleeps till about 8 sometimes later.

Hi!! Congrats on the newcomer!! I have 8 and 3 yr old boys. I know alot of parents do things differently when it comes to night time routine but this is what I do...both of my boys will sleep in anywhere from 7 to 8:30am. I have always stuck to the same bedtime for both. Their bed time is no later than 9pm. I think that if they go to bed early they will wake up early. There are some nights though that if we have had a busy day or they are just tired I will put them down at 8 or 8:30. This has always worked for me. My oldest one never wakes up on his own any earlier than 7. And if my youngest one wakes up before 7 I make him lay back down, because if I don't he will be very cranky and tired until he gets his afternoon nap. I know several people that put their kids to bed at 7 or 7:30 and they all complain that their kids are waking up so early. So if you would like a little bit of sleep in the mornings try a new bedtime!! I hope this helps you out somewhat...good luck!!

Children have a sort of internal clock. Their body knows how much rest they need and so they sleep and then wake up when their ready. The only suggestions I would have would be to let them stay up a little longer. Do it slowly so they get used to it. Keep them up to 7:45, then 8 then so on. Their bodies will adjust to the later bedtime and they will sleep in later than 5. Also, if they nap during the day, cut the naps out so they sleep more during the night. My kids are 6 and 5 and go to bed at about 8:30 every night. On days that they don't have to get up for school they usually sleep in to a decent time.

try putting them to bed later or maybe even a nap if they would. my son goes to bed at 7 or 730 and he wakes up at 6 but maybe a nap would help(worth a try)
