I have a girl who just turned 4. She is going thru this stage where she screams and pitches a BIG fit when she doesn't get her way or if she is in trouble. I have whipped her, time out and ab unch of different things with no help. She is really embarrising when we go somewhere so we don't take her many places b/c of her tantrums. Please help!

The best thing to do is set them somewhere to scream it out.. that way they know they arent getting their way or attention by doing it. Then when they are calm down say "are you done now" and try talking to them.

Oh and for when you do go out. Try to schedule it when you know they won't be tired and cranky. For us we go first thing in the morning after our oldest is dropped off at school or after 3. Then nap time and snacks are out of the way and their happy and ready to go again. =)

My 4 1/2 yr old son tries this from time to time. He gets really upset and because he can't get out what he wants to say he screams bloody murder. His face has turned purple from doing this, veins popped out and all. It's not fun to deal with. We always stick him in his room until he's done. He does calm down and then comes out and apologizes for his behavior and says what he was trying to before.
Also for going out, ours are always told before hand what is expected of them and what the consequences will be if they do not listen. If they act up then we will leave wherever we are at and come home. They love outings (even to grocery shop) so their always on their best behavior. It's not fun coming home to have to sit in your room and think on your behavior.

I have a daughter that will be 4 in July that does the same thing, she also pitches a fit when she is asked to pick up her toys. So I keep a laundry basket my the door and when she acts up I start filling it with her favorite toys and then I set the basket out side on the back patio where she can see them. This drives her crazy!! We tell her that when she can act nicely and do as she is told she can have them back and if she doesn't won't to act nicely then we will take the basket to the little girl down the street. My husband has gone as far as making Gracie take a toy to the little girl so that she would understand that we are not playing around when we say we will give them away. So needless to say I feel your pain! I would also recommend the book " Have a new kid by Friday" is has some really good advise in it. Hope thing get better for you!
