my first pregnacy two years ago with my son was an emergency c section. i am ever bless that he is alive and very thankful. but i am pregnant with my second child. i live in wyoming where the doctors are very against vaginal birth after c section (vbac) and will not do it. i have done a bunch of research on vbac and have found that in ALL 50 states it is legal to have a vbac even the doctors where i live have been telling me it is illegal in the state of wyo. so basically i have decovered its a lie. but after all the research i have done knowing the risks and benifts i still dont have the choice. i really do want this and i dont know where to go from here. everywhere will allow vbac but wyo and i i dont know how to fight this. i truely believe it should be my choice. it is my body and my child. if anyone has any thoughts on it please let me know i feel like im at a dead end and dont know how to fight for my belief.

Try these two sites for information. It is not illegal for VBAC, it however requires more staffing and there are more hoops for doctors to jump through in the case of VBAC cases so most doctors do not insure against it and will not do it. For every woman that goes through a VBAC there has to be a doctor free. Most doctors will have multiple pregnancies going on at one time where as with a VBAC this is against practice and they are unable to do it. Which means less money for the doctors office.

Not too sure if this would help you or not...I'm Canadian, so this may not be too applicable in your area, but I would start with a birthing centre in your state or just even calling a midwife practice....they should definitely know something about it. I don't really understand why your state would be against VBAC (o.k., in certain circumstances...but this would be extremely circumstantial)...well, o.k., I do know something about it from purely a monetary/insurance stance, but I don't want to sound jaded.

Also, if you have a University near by it wouldn't hurt to email their Women's Studies Department...they should have some amazing advice for you (like where to start). I love where you said it should be your choice and it is your body and your child. I hope to have a VBAC too if we are blessed to be pregnant again.

Good luck and I hope you get your VBAC, your way!

p.s. I have a few friends with children who had to have emergency c-sections with their firsts and then went onto have VBACs and they all say having vaginal births were a much better experiences than c-sections.

I don't know why they wont let you do it if it is your second child ever nurse and doctor i have talked to have told me that if you have a c-section with your first you can have a natural birth with your next. but if you have two c-sections then it will be c-sections with the others. And yes it should be your choice on what you want to do with your body and your child. and i do believe that c-sections cost more that could be why they are telling you that is has to be done. I would suggest talking to another doctor and get a second opinion if possible

I have to agree with your friends on this one.  I had a VBAC as well.  My first was an emergency c-section and I decided I wanted to have a vaginal birth with the next.  With the first, for the first day I was completely out of sorts and had the problems of trying to get ouf of bed, stand and all of that and enjoying my little one took more effort.  With my second, I was out of bed 5 minutes after delivery, went to the bathroom and had much more awareness to hold her in my arms and could start breast feeding immediately.  It was a HUGE difference and is definately worth it.
