I have been an LPN for 18yrs and have just signed up with Excelsior college. I work full time as a Hospice nurse and have 4 children at home. Any tips, suggestions, advice, helpful hints...etc?

I am a hospice nurse too- and I did a lot of on-line courses when I went back to school. I would say set yourself a schedule and stick to it. Make sure your husband knows that your study time is a priority and he's ready to give you some time alone to get it done! Good Luck!

I've heard that some states do not recognize an RN certification from EC. I know Georgia and California don't. Just check up if your state board recognizes it and if local facilities will hire you with an EC education before you invest in the program.

Sorry no, I did the RN to BSN with University of Phoenix and had a great experience, but not Excelsior.

I am working on this currently. I had a lot of my prerequisites done, but still had a few to complete when I started. I originally signed on through the College Network. Knowing what I do now, I would not recommend the College Network route to anyone. Stick strictly with Excelsior and you do fine. You definitely have to be disciplined though. I did two of their online classes for my prereqs and enjoyed those. I have taken 3 of the nursing exams now and have been happy with my progress. The very first one, I did not study at all. I just went in and took the test and got a C. Thank God that is all I needed to pass or that would have been a waste of money. I can't say I did a huge amount of studying for the other two, but they were both areas that I was fairly familiar with and I got B's on both. Definitely use the study guides and purchase the practice exams if you get the opportunity. And utilize the EPN.
