I just posted about starting the diet and I'm finding it really difficult. I went shopping and really realized how much I couldn't eat because if I ate it I would eat so little I knew I wouldn't get full on it. I don't use artificial sweetners (I'm going to try to get some stevia so I can at least drink tea) while I'm pregnant, and I'm just finding it really hard right now. I feel like I'm still starving after every meal, and I keep thinking about what I would be eating if I could. Does anyone have any advice on low carb things that I could try that might be better and not too expensive? I mean there's tons of stuff if I spend the money, but I just don't have it to spend with the baby on the way and all. I just know that I'm getting a little down about it because I just want to eat everything in sight and I can't eat any of it it feels like!!

I don't know what diet you're on. But why can't you have spaghetti bologanaise? Lean mince, onions, garlic, some tinned toms, passata, carrots (well in my house we have carrots) mushrooms, courgette/zuchini etc, leave it simmering on low for a couple of hours and serve with whole wheat pasta and some parmesan...all completely natural ingredients, made from scratch. High in fibre, protein etc and low in salts, sugars and carbs...simples!

The thing to remember in pregnancy is to try and keep your sugar levels balanced. You don't want big spikes. So it's best to eat little and often. Have some cheese and high fibre snacks like ryvita. Baked beans on wholemeal toast with some cheese sprinkled on top. Have some lean bacon grilled (no fat), wholewheat toast and some baked beans....lovely. I sometimes buy a rotissary chicken, make a pasta dish using wholewheat spaghetti, a tomato based sauce using passata and tinned toms, garlic, peppers, and whatever you have in the fridge....mushrooms, sweetcorn, broccoli, celery whatever you have lying around. I've even used some quorn sausages as well to give it a more meaty texture...mix it all together, put it in a dish and give it a melted cheese topping. then I pick at the rest of the leftover chicken throughout the day as a snack...lol. I'm currently on a diet (I'm not pregnant atm) so I don't eat the skin, but I don't see why you couldn't.

There are things that are freebies to eat on the diet that you can have more of at dinner, like vegetables (cauliflower, broccoli, etc). I think if you're really hungry, you have to go with something like that. Or, maybe some meat of some kind? I would get deli meat (make sure you heat it to steaming before you eat it so it's safe to eat when pregnant) and cheese to eat if I was hungry, it didn't have a bad effect on my blood sugars. Also, getting more fiber will help control your blood sugar and fill you up faster, as well as helping with the constipation that comes with pregnancy. I know it is hard, but you can do it!
