Just found out I have thyroid cancer

was diagnosed with papillary carcinma when my son was 5 months old as well :) back in may of 2009 ... after 2 partial thyroidectomys.... rai treatment and dricing to another province for a pet scan ....I am doing great ... just welcomed our little bundle ella sept 4th of this year ..... from many drs I have heard if you were to get any kind of cancer they would want thyroid ... its the asiest to treat :) I go for my ultrasound follow up to my oncologist on wednesday and I am praying for great news ... last year my 2 ultrasounds were good so I hope things don't change ... if this app is good I am discharged from the cancer center :)

i found out april 1 2009 that i have follicullar thyroid cancer... i am good now i still get ultrasound done on my neck every 6 months and iodine whole body scans yearly. of course i am on thyroid meds now to i did have iodine radation treatment in may 2009 let me know if ya have any questions. my kids are 10 and 6 my 6 year old has cp.

So sorry to hear Heather, I have Leukemia so I know those words are hard to hear. And I too have a son he is 9 though. He has been my rock, I look at him and refuse to give up!!!!!!! So don't you give up that little boy needs you hun....... Good Luck

Well, that is awesome! I am so happy for you since you want to have more children. I know how hard it is to wait. I have wanted to have another - would have liked to have one sooner, but it just hasn't been possible. I am so happy that things are going so well for you! Congratulations!

She actually told me the other day that I don't have to do the RAI at all. It's not a teatment for microscopic cancer. It shows no higher benefits to have it than if you don't have it. We were talking about when we were going to have our next child and when to have the treatment and she said doing it was mainly for easier future exams, but that I could skip it for now and if there was a concern later I could do it then... Worries me not to do it, but she was very matter of fact about it and I don't think she would have said it if it weren't true. She had discussed my case with others b/c it was different than most.

I have had my surgery...they took our my whole thyroid 1 1/2 months ago... Turned out that the nodule itself WASN'T cancer, but it did have a couple places on it that were... They said it's mircoscopic pappillary thyroid caner...the treatment technically is removing the thyroid, but my dr would prefer to go ahead with RAI so that it'll be easier to check for reoccurance in the future. the chance of it coming back is next to nothing since it's microscopic, but I had muliple sopts (3) so she'd reper to go ahread and do it. I am going to do but probably when the baby turns one...

I see your post was a while ago, but I just joined. How are you doing? Have you had surgery? RAI?
I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer about one week after my son was born. I had my first surgery on his one month birthday. I've had 4 since he was born and just got my first clean ultrasound in 3.5 years. That was my first reaction. "I can't have cancer - I have a baby." You are right - it is the most treatable cancer. That does not mean it's not cancer. You still need to fight, be diligent and do exactly what your doctors say, and take care of yourself. I have a very aggressive tumor and have had 3 recurrences and have had to even have my chest cracked open. I have really been through hell the last 3 years. That being said, I am a very unusual case.
I keep a diary for my son, in case the worst does happen. But I am confident now, that as long as I do as my doctors reccomend it won't come to that. We catch it early, we take it out, we burn it, and we get on with life. I may not be the mom I always pictured, but I am his mom, I am here, and that's enough.
