any mothers who have had or are currently suffering from postnatal depression and are living in australia who need to share their stories??? I had it with all 3 children and have since been diagnosed with a more long term mental illness.
Motherhood is the hardest job in the world but doing it whilst suffering from depression is almost impossible

My husband was absolutely wonderful! When I had my first, I was only 18 and had no-one to talk to, all my friends were still out partying. We were living in Qld and the only family around was my mother, who was more hindrance than help! I was on medication, but the thing I found most helpful was joing the ABA (Aust. breastfeeding Association) and finding people who gave me a hug when I said I could not handle it anymore. My second was easier because we moved to Vic. where I had my family, and the support made so much difference, even if they didn't understand exactly what they were supporting!

Hi there,
I'm also an Aussie mum, had it with both my children. I found mine was most definitely worse the second time around, so much so that it has put me off having any more children. I am happy with my 2 anyway! My youngest has just turned 2 and I am still on medication but I am happy to be where I am at the moment! It has been (like all of you I'm sure) a long, hard battle but I've come out the other side.

Hi Dinah, my name's Jackie & I'm in Adelaide. Went thru it with my first son,badly, & ever since have been on & off of anti-depressents of all strengths & brands! I am now a happy mum of 6 & their Dad is wonderful with it. He doesn't fully understand it, but tries,& supports me when I need it.If You want the full story, let me know-it's a long one!
