Need an easy Cake for a 1 year old and 5 year old cake

I am in need of a 1 year old boy cake and 5 year old girl cake. They are both born in Sept. This year because money is tight we are havint to throw one BIG bday party for them. The 5 year old doesnt mind at all. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do for a Cake for them. Thank you so much!

cakecentral.com has many ideas for cakes. I also just made a tiny cake just for my 1 yr old to have for herself, then a regular cake for the guests. You can find many cake pans from Wilton on Ebay that are cheaper than from Wilton.com - which also has many cake ideas.

Cupcakes could be an alternative - half could be decorated for each child, placed in a row that spells out their names, or using cheap little toys from a dollar store as decorations, anything is possible!! Good luck!

How about making a cake in the shape or theme that the 5 year old really enjoys, and then a smaller cake for the 1 year old to eat by himself. This past April I made a cake for a friend's daughter's 1st birthday and the little girl had a seperate cake all to herself. It doesn't have to be big, could just be a big or small cupcake. And then another one for the rest of the guests.

We just did a laua party...We did 3/4 of the cake as the sand with polly pocket beach dolls sitting on the beach and then 1/4 of the cake te ocean with the polly pocket sea animals (from the polly pocket beach set {$10 A Walmart}). Then for the birthday girl I got a sand bucket and layered slices of cake and pudding top layer was pudding and then crummbled grahmcrackers for the sand. Then put the shovel in bocket and placed a few seashells on the top. Lots of fun to make.
