Dana that kind of holiday is what I enjoy most too! I have lived in Thailand, Japan and now Hong Kong but the best holidays spent were in familiar territory, not far from my home in Aus. A holiday doesn't have to involve traveling to be counted as a holiday.
And I'll be the last person to laugh at you because you get homesick! Call me the Queen of Homesickness! hehe
The ONLY time I've ever been away from home is for a week this past Feb. when I took Roxanne to Las Vegas to visit my SIL, her aunt! Other than that, I've never travelled as an adult.....not even to another province! Embarrassing isn't it?!
When I was 13 I got to go to Florida ( Disney World ) with my parents.....it was mostly a business trip for my dad because he had to speak at some conferences!
To be honest, the only reason I haven't travelled much is because I'm a weirdo....I HATE flying and I don't like to be away from home. I get homesick, even as an adult! I can hear the snickers already....LOL! A holiday for me would be to drive a few hours to a beautiful lakeside resort and just lounge, chill on the beach etc. Doesn't take much to keep this girl happy!
I had a nice time when my husband and I drove to Phoenix from WA, the drive was terrible...husbands a drive to get there kinda guy, I saw every rest stop on the I-5 corridor! We stayed w/my brothers (2 of em), my sister flew in @ same time, and we got to visit another brother that was in the area, that was 2004?5maybe??? Other then that I have real fond memories from camping w/my fam as a teen 15 yrs ago. It was real nice there are 6 kids in my fam. so everything was BIG...since we all grew up everything has been basically me and my husband...now our 2 kids... Thanksgiving was lame cuz it was just the 4 of us...I miss BIG events! I think that's why Phoenix was fun because we had 4-5 of us...and it was MY fam! We went to Montana last year for my hubby's cousin's grad. it was nice, but I can't wait until we go visit my sibs in Bellingham, they moved from AZ :) , here in July! yippee!!! Too bad it'll only be overnight! shucks!!!

Wait! No I went to Sunshine Coast for my honeymoon! Haha! I always just think it's the same area. Lucky you living in such a beautiful place! We loved it there.
Glad you had a good holiday recently :)
Have you made holiday plans yet Katherine? *cracks whip*

Lisa, I live 2 hours from the Gold Coast, on the Sunshine Coast, just as beautiful but a little more laid back.
I went to Tasmania for a holiday two weeks ago, just me and my daughter, it was lovely and relaxing. We went to visit my mum and dad, it was nice to get pampered a little while I was there.
Meanwhile I am still trying to catch up on all the house work my husband made while I was away, I will need another holiday after I have finished!
