i've had 3 migranes in 3 weeks, the 1st ones in my life. i thought a migrane was just a really bad headache untill i had one.

man, i thought i was having a stroke. i couldn't even put a sentence together. i knew what i wanted to say but the words wouldnt come out.

my arm and hand was numb and my face. i had blurry vision, i felt confussed and almost like i was outside myself looking in.

i puked all over the bathroom bc i couldnt see the toilet, the bathroom was way too shiny.

and can you believe my doctor just told me to take tylenol. i wanted to say, YOUR FUCKING KIDDING RIGHT??

I'm scared that this may happen while i'm driving or doing something that i cant turn my back on. it could kill me. although i feel like i'm dieing anyway the reality that i could is too real.

i had no idea what a migrain was for 27 years. why now.. anyone else have these? what do you do when it starts? and why did my stupid doc say tylenol? what can i take that will really help??

@ Joanna, I get migraines often too. (Along with everything else) My neurologist recommended botox injections. It really works. Every three months. I had to go threw hoops to get it approved but well worth it. Also not cosmetic strength so it doesnt make you look any younger. darn it. Just a thought {:+)

I use Imitrex for my migraines, 9 times out of 10 it works for me. I also go to a chiropractor and massage therapist when I can afford it which really helps since mine are caused by physical problems. My doctor also wants me to take something to prevent them since I get several every week, but what he wants to give me is addicting, and that's not cool with me. Try to avoid light and noise. Chocolate and cheese are common triggers, magnesium can help reduce frequency and severity. A cold compress might provide minor relief depending on severity.

Oh bless your heart! I have migraines as well and wow are they a pain. I have tried topomax and imitrex, but honestly excedrin migraine works wonderfully for me with no side effects as long as I take it the first moment I feel one coming on. They are a pain and I hope you find something that works...also, don't you hate it when people just have a bad headache and say they have a migraine?? Bugs me to no end!! :)

Cynthia, Please go to the doctor. If you have never had a headache like this before there could be something wrong. And if not, nobody has ever died of embarassment. Good luck {:+)

Feverfew. Seriously, it is what my husband uses and it saves his life each migraine season!

Feverfew (Tanacetum parthenium ), a member of the sunflower family, has been used for centuries in European folk medicine as a remedy for headaches, arthritis, and fevers. The term feverfew is adapted from the Latin word febrifugia or "fever reducer."

Feverfew is also used to treat menstrual irregularities, labor difficulties, skin conditions, stomach aches, and asthma.

Feverfew products usually consist of dried feverfew leaves, but all parts of the plant that grow above ground may also be used for medicinal purposes. The migraine-relieving activity of feverfew is believed to be due to parthenolide, an active compound that helps relieve smooth muscle spasms. In particular, it helps prevent the constriction of blood vessels in the brain (one of the leading causes of migraine headaches). Parthenolide also inhibits the actions of compounds that cause inflammation and may inhibit cancer cell growth.

The only one we use is Nature's Sunshine. Pure ground feverfew leaves in a capsule. They key is, you have to get this in your system...it must be in your blood stream at least a week to start effectiveness. BC Powder works for the onset of a migraine, it is nasty powder but immediately dissolves and begins to work. Ice packs on the migraine location, low lights, LOTS of water. They suck, I know!

I have migraines to and I'm on preventative medications because I get them so badly. Tylenol doesn't do it or anything for that matter once they already start. I used to throw up violently and have to stay in a darkened room for almost a day. Now I'm on Topomax and that helps a lot. You need to go see a neurologist.

I suffer from migraines, thee is no pain like a migraine attacke. The last serious attack i got was three years ago i ended up in hospital for a week, one side of my face was swollen. I was put in a private room with no noise and no light. 2 years ago when i fell pregnant my doctor was scared because i had to stop the medication, but God is good, for the whole nine months i had no attack. i got one the day i was in labour and getting epidural shots, but the doctor quickly gave me some injection and it stopped immediately. After that i would get minor ones while breastfeeding and it was very difficult to take medication. These days i do get headaches, but not a migraine attack. Ever since the baby really, its been alot better, my son will be 2 in July. You need to eat right, stay away from caffeine, things like coke, red wine, chocolate, and dairy products. i'ts a terrible disease, but i feel i have it under control now. Good luck and all the best.
