yes we have this ery expensive cream from the doctor if he gets one we just apply alot of repelant every day pretty much as we have so many in my city.

Crazy you posted this. Gabby got a bite on her face before she went for her nap, she woke up and her whole face was swollen, she could barely open her left eye! I rushed to the drugstore for an antihistamine. Shes not swollen anymore, but I'm pretty freaked out. I'm allergic to bug bites, bees and stuff especially. I'm going to make an appointment and get her an epipen as well, just as a precaution. If shes allergic to bees like me, she'd be dead in minutes!

I know it was a mosquito because i caught it and killed it, i didnt think anything of it because she had a bug bite before..

How old is your daughter Kath? The reason why I ask is my daughter is 2.9 years and the dermotologist helped me teach her to put cream on her self. Because water is not good for her skin after every hand wash etc. she must put on this special cream that is a barrier for her skin. She learned it after a while... so maybe you can help her do the same? I am just thinking with ya here.....

Urgh that is difficult! I guess you can only try to ask him to do so, for the sake of the child's well being. Tell him the doctor said to do it even if they did not... Stupid men :)

Well an allergic reaction is an allergic reaction! But if the doc is of not any help the hemorrhoid cream will work better than just plane cortisone cream. However I would push for a treatment from my doctor, I would make an appointment when it is huge and big and she is in agony and ask what shall I do? Maybe you did that not sure. I know some allergies are not able to test for until later but some are obvious. Like Bee stings! With my sammie they knew she was allergic to bees and other insect bites as well. She was only 3.
I have to give my Claire cortisones crams 4 to 5 days a week due to sever eczema, the doctors here told me to make sure I always gave a two day break not to matter what when I use it.

@ Angela, the problem is that when they're at their dad's I don't think he puts repellent on them!!!! He knows how allergic she is. I am also going to ask for an epi pen too.

The problem is that she's too young for an allergist according to her pediatrician. I will try the hemorrhoid cream though, that sounds like a really good idea. Thanks.

Katherine, I would go to an allergist or pediatrician because it sounds like an allergic reaction for sure. I think their are stronger medications but I would ask the doctor what is a safe effective. Also ask of a mosquito repellent you can use during Mosquito season, daily. I know DEET works best but I would be a bit worried to put that on my kid daily. I lived in N.C. and used it when it was bad because we also had a big tick issue...and with Dear ticks. But I used water resistant children's natural stuff daily but can't remember the name of it for the life of me. I got it at the health food store at the time...sorry.

The stuff in hemorrhoid cream is lidocaine and cortisone, you can get a lidocaine/cortisone cream by prescription from a doctor for pain and itch that is stronger than over the counter stuff. However with that type of strength you need to give at least 2 days off from the stuff so it does not build up in the system and cause side effects. Not to matter a doctor can give the proper strength if needed etc. I def. would see an allergist.

Do you know if she is allergic to Bees, or spider bites, my Sammie was and she almost died from a bee sting while we were in our garden.

I use Stingoes but all the other stuff you've tried is way stronger so it probably wouldn't do much. Logan seems to get MASSIVE lumps on him it looks terrible.

I get severe reactions to mosquito bites. If I get a tiny bite on my foot my whole foot and ankle will swell, then go hard and bright red and the skin goes really tight and itchy. Same thing happens to my knees and elbows and any where else I get huge hot red itchy lumps. This is going to sound really weird, but the thing that works for me, as reccommend by the chemist, is haemmeroid cream. It has a mild anaesthetic in it that numbs the pain and the itch and it helps to reduce the swelling. Not sure if it would be suitable for a child but it could be worth asking about

My niece is the same way and the doctor told my sister to give her childrens reactine before going somewhere that there would be a lot of mosquitos. She also changed the bug spray she was using to some all natural one and it helped as well.

Tried both. Her hand swelled up like you would NOT believe. You couldn't even see her knuckles.
The Benadryl didn't help a whole lot. I'm just wondering if there is something else.

My daughter Sammie was the same way she is also allergic to bees. The doctor recommended bendryl and cortisone cream. The cream worked best for us helped with the swelling and the itching. Hope this helps your daughter.
