What items in your closet are totally killing your fashion confidence?

Well before I lost weight I was looking REALLY frumpy! Loose everything. My stomach was huge I felt like shit and I know I looked like shit!

Now I feel much better about myself :)

Here are some things to clear out:

1. 10-year-old jeans -- C'mon, you know you have a pair of jeans sitting on your shelf that hugged you in all the right places about 10 years ago, but simply don't fit at this point in your life, and probably never will again. Hanging on to them is only killing your self esteem. It's time to break up with them and move on to a new pair that fits your body NOW. (It'll be a miracle if I ever learn this one.)

2. Dress from your bridal shower -- When it comes to keeping the dress I wore to my own shower almost 10 years ago, I'm guilty as charged. I won't even tell you what size the damn thing is because it will make me cry, but the dress is another ego blow that I need to part with. If you are clinging to a frock from a special occasion in your past -- let it go before you go insane. Trust me.

3. "Mom" cardigan -- You know that cardigan sweater that keeps you warm on days when the office AC is cranked to the max? Yeah, it may get rid of your goosebumps, but it also makes you look about 20 years older.

4. Baggy sweats -- It can be so tempting to throw on a pair of sweats and an old t-shirt because of the comfort factor, but nothing says, "I've totally let myself go" like an outfit that looks & feels like frump-city.

5. String bikini from your honeymoon -- This one is along the same lines as the jeans and bridal shower dress. Let. It. Go. Invest in a brand new tankini or one-piece instead.

6. "Mom" jeans -- For the love of God, PLEASE throw away anything remotely resembling mom jeans. The rule of thumb I like to use is if you are unable to see your belly button after putting your jeans on -- you're wearing mom jeans. Unacceptable.

7. Granny panties -- Ok, so these may be in your dresser and not your closet, but they still count. Granny panties are called "Granny" panties for a reason -- because there's nothing sexy about them. Throw them away and buy yourself a whole load of comfortable & chic lace thongs.

8. Pants with pleats -- Pleats are a serious fashion disaster -- period. No further explanation needed.

Oh, and in my book, there is no such thing as a "comfortable lace thong!" I will not don a thong unless there is no other option for that dress. I think bikini briefs or hippie styles are cute enough, and they don't feel like someone is trying to floss your insides.

I used my tried and tested 'have I worn it in the last 'x' months?' and anything that didn't fit well, method. I'm a clothes whore and like to rifle through thrift stores and market stalls for bargains. I do have a lovely collecton of leather jackets and I've not paid more than £15 for any one of them (and will never part with them babies either), but the lack of fitting rooms means that some of the tops I've bought were not as long as I like (they have to be long linehip skimmers)or I just didn't have stuff that went with it.
I don't think I've EVER had a pair of jeans last more than 3yrs!

Knee high socks

A skirt that is way too short for me 10 years ago and now is insanely too short

Basketball shorts

A halter top (Dont ask why I have it)

I'm 56 kilos now and I'm actually considering the same thing...my hips might never come back to their original place. Should I give up trying and get used to the idea of my body never coming back or should I keep trying as much as I can???

Tina, looks like you also have twin

Since we recently moved, my closet is clean of stuff I will never use again EXCEPT for my pre pregnancy jeans. They were brand new before pregnancy and after having the twins, instead of being a size 0, I'm a 4...BUT I'm working my ass and hips off 4-5 times a week and the only reason I keep them there is to remind myself that I can do it

I had a couple of bras that were fitting weird. I didn't realize how bad they were until I bought some new bras! The girls look so good, and even though I realize that I need to lose weight to look the way I want, that one thing was a huge boost for now!

I think men fit into this category too. My hubby has a wardrobe full of clothes that don't fit him and refuses to get rid of lol.

A mom cardigan is a super comfy, rather ugly, cozy knit sweater that opens down the front. My "mom cardigan" does happen to be rather long--it falls to just below my hips, it's grey, it's piling, and all the buttons have fallen off the front. IT'S the BEST SWEATER EVER!!!!!

Thongs? Eff that! Everything else, yes, except the bridal shower dress. It's pretty. And the top still fits.

I dont keep too many old things, though I did gain about 10 lbs the past 6 mos or so, so I have some jeans and shorts I am hoping to get into again. I know this is weird, but I only own 1 pair of sweats that I sometimes wear to bed. Now shoes, I do have a dress from my daughters wedding I will probably not wear again though, and the shoes form that dress I absolutely love, but doubt I'll wear again.

haha! I don't have most of those, but I do have the "mom cardigan." At one point, I went out and bought a bunch of really cute, trendy cardigans to wear in it's place, but look cute (remember when they made a brief comeback last year, or was it the year before?). None of them compared to my mom cardi though, so even though it looks like crap, I wear it......A LOT.

I also refuse to get rid of my baggy sweats. I don't wear them out of the house, but I SOOOO LOVE to cuddle up in them during the winter.

I'm actually pretty good with clothes. I had to have a big clear out about a yr ago because I toned up and went down a dress size. I'm still picking away at building my wardrobe back up again.

My dress from my cousins wedding. It will NEVER fit in the bust ever again unless I lose some serious weight. And a lot of my underwear that I never throw out. I have jeans from when I was younger I really need to cull my clothes, yet again.

I do that too. But I lost SO much weight for what reason I don't know, that I'm in a 1-3. I had to get rid of all my bigger clothes. Now with my luck I'll gain weight and have no clothes to wear!

Hopefully there are no disasters lurking in my closet! I spent last night bagging stuff up for the charity shops and I've hardly anything left.

I have a closet full of size 2, 4, and 6's that I keep telling myself I will wear again some day. My butt needs some serious treadmill time to lose my tummy and actually get down to a 4 again, 6 maybe, 4 probably not :( size 2 is completely out of the question, lol
