I worked in a Long Day Care Centre until I had my 2nd child, 3 1/2 years ago, then I switched over to Family Day Care (in Australia)! I have my Diploma in Early Childhood Studies and worked in centres for about 8 years!! I have been a team leader in 4 different age groups, Nursery 0-16months, Tiny Tots 16months - 2yrs, Toddlers 2 - 3yrs and Jnr Pre-school 3 - 4years! I loved the busyness of the centres, but I find Family Day Care so much more rewarding, I pick my hours, charge my own fees and choose the amount of children I look after as long as it is no more than 5 under school age and 2 school age! I have just had baby No. 3 so will be sticking at Family Day Care for a while longer, who knows, I might return to a centre one day!

I am acting group leader in the nursery room and I have taken my daughter to work with me since she was 11 months old she is now in the kinder room getting ready for prep next year. How lucky are we to get paid to look after our kids!!!!! I wouldnt change a thing. Next year will be a shock for me when she starts "big school"
Where are you in aussie? and what is your position?

thanks for replying. Its good to see someone on here that will be aware of the issues i'm facing at work - because laws and expectations are so different country to country. My daughter comes to my centre - how about you and your child? what role are you working in while you study your diploma?

You know, we Childcare all different names around the world.
Some call it Family Day Care, where I am from we call it, "Dayhomes" , so perhaps you want to find out what the names for different care is to find the one you are in. It sounds like you work (what we would call it here) a Daycare Centre. That would also include teachers/workers and Directors with owners. Here some Centres are Non-profit, others are for profit.

nothingI really wanted to know. I joined the group thinking it would be full of people like us working in Long day Care but it seems to be all about Family Day care. Where do you work? What role are you working in?
I work on the Gold Coast in a privately owned centre (very hands on owners) as the Director.
