I live in San Jose, Ca. I talk to each family individually and ask them what rate they feel comfortable with between $5-10/ hour. I have 375/ wk, 220/wk, 42/ day, 7/ hour, etc.

I'm in Australia and i charge a flat rate of $5.50 an hour (self-set) plus a 40cent/per hour/per family admin fee (mandated by my scheme/licenser) for standard hours. It goes up for non-standard, casual or public holiday care. When i get my certificate in child services i might increase my fees but at this stage i dont feel justified in charging the same as a fully qualified person.

I'm having a tough time figuring out what to charge myself, considering the hardships many are facing here in Sacramento. I have found the range to be $150-$250 per week, depending on what they provide (diapers, organic meals etc) and age.

I have to ask where in KS you are?? I grew up in NW Kansas and have family still there. My friend's mom does daycare in Colby and was charging $87/wk four years ago(she said she was on the high end too). My sister in Hays is going to pay about $110/wk for a registered provider. If you're in a rural area, that really makes a difference on what you can charge and what families can afford to pay.
I'm in NW Denver and charge $35/day or about $145-165 full time/wk for infants-5 year. I'm a little on the low end but am determined to provide quality care for families at a reasonable rate.

I am also in Colorado. Prices vary even within Denver. In the SE Aurora area, infants go from anywhere from $180-$300/week and toddlers/preschoolers are anywhere from $150-$200/week.
If you check NACCRA, you'll find that Kansas had the highest rate increases, up 50% in 2007. You should definitely be charging more!

you need to charge more. you are getting ripped off. I live in ND and I charge $27/day for part time families per kid and $25/day/kid for fulltime families. And im told all the time that i should charge more. Its not about the money, but you do need to realize how important your job is and that anywhere else you would be making more an hour.

I'm here in a suberb of Sacramento, CA and I'm allowed to change my rates once a year. I did some research so to be competative with other providers in the area and I just decided to one Full Time rate of $160 a week for 0-5yrs. That includes meals/snacks/drinks and other supplies as well. Then I have a daily rate of $35 or $5 hourly. It's $115 weekly or $25 Daily for older school aged children.

I currently work in a day care in a small town in Idaho. The charges for infants is $124 a week for full time. That does include formula, baby cereal and baby food. I know that there are different charges for different ages but I am not sure what they are off the top of my head. I agree with the pp about checking with the health dept and licenseing dept.

In ks I was making 2 an hour when I left that was 12 years ago. I would check with the womans resourse there in KS and ask for a childcare fees for the counties there in KS. There should be a record of comparable fees in surounding counties. I get one every year. Now I am in CO and I make 165 for an infant and 150.00 for a toddler a week. But I also run a preschool and have different teachers come for different activities. Also your health Dept and Lic specialist should be able to help you out with this as well.
