My husband are going to try for our 4th and final child some time in the next year, and I am considering having a tubaligation afterward since I will be having a c-section anyway due to a previous c-section with twins. I am a little hesitant just because I've heard of people who have never had any 'female' problems before a tubal, but afterwards they have problems. I've never had an irregular period or bad cramps or anything like that, and I don't really want to start having that trouble now. I also do not want to go back on birth control as I have discovered it has an adverse affect on my mood and energy level. However, I could approach my husband with the subject of a vasectomy, but since I already have to have surgery it would be less of an expense for me to have the tubal. Can you guys tell me your experiences with tubaligations or give me any advice?

I had a Tubal ligation almost 3 years ago and as far as periods go , I don't bleed as long as I used to but I'm a little heavier on the first day or two .After that my period is gone within 3 to 4 days. It does change the periods a bit but nothing too drastic for me..just make sure it's what You really want .sometimes I wish I had listened to my doctor and waited.because I get the longing for another baby at times now . I had mine done after my second child but I wanted to have it done because I had high risk in both pregnancies with preeclampsia that resulted in early delivery. I had it during my csection as well .Good luck!

I just had a tubal ligation after my 4th bub as I was having a c/s too. Am SOOO happy not to have to worry about birth control (I can't take the pill for health reasons), although I must admit I do sort of think about it from time to time as you never actually KNOW that it is working, you just have to trust it. I am breastfeeding so don't have my period back yet so can't help on that front, but I can't see (from a medical backgroudn) why a ligation would cause any female problems... Go for it, it was only an extra 10 mins after the c/s, I never noticed anything and I am very happy I did it.

Oh and I did hear about Essure it is a permanent birth control procedure that works with your body to create a natural barrier against pregnancy. This gentle procedure can be performed in a doctor's office in less than 10 minutes. My dr told me about it... but you cant reverse it... I am thinking of have a parcel Hysterectomy then I wont have periods, my mom and sister did that, and they said it was the best thing they ever did... But I know thats not for every one... I have a history of Cervical Cancer and so I think it is something I should consider. I think you should look into that essure procedure they have a web site that tells you more... Just some thoughts... Thanx

I had one after my second child, 10 yrs ago, and I loved it, my husband loved it too for personal reasons(if ya know what I mean) ;) then 5 yrs ago I had a reversal and had 2 more girls... I am still fine, now I am done having babies and ready to get them tied again... Can't wait! But I do believe we are all different. I had a great dr. he tied them and untied them. I believe it also depends on your age. I never had bad periods before or after my tubal, or after the reversal, but now I am hitting 35 yrs old, I am noticing My periods are getting worse, and lasting longer. May be cuz I am nursing my 9 month old still, but I think its age, cuz I never had a period when I nursed my other kids... I am hoping when I get them tied again that they will get better again. Good luck to u!

it was the best thing i ever did. I don't get cramps any worse then i did before. i find my period is lighter then it was before and I don't have to worry about it. Tell them that you want them clamped as that is the best procedure from what i was told. You wont feel any different then you do now.

Had a tubal (steel clips) just 2 months ago. It was a piece of cake! Came home after laproscopic surgery, had a nap, and was back at my crazy regular life. I would recommended it.

Have you considered learning about natural family planning? It sounds like you don't want surgery. There are many great methods of natural family planning. We used the Billings Ovulation Method. It is opver 99 % effective in postponing pregnancy and easy to use. You can google it to find a teacher near you. Try: www.billingslife.org

I had twins in September, told the Dr that would be my absolute last pregnancy and they never got the paperwork done to have the tubal done so I had a c-section and had to wait 6 weeks to have the tubal done seperately.... my advise make absolutely sure that if you want it done at time of c-section that you have ALL the paperwork done ahead of time cause if I were to do it over I would have had my husband get a vasectomy rather than endure the gas pains from a seperate tubal surgery. I havent noticed any significant difference in pms but bleeding is a lil heavier than it ever used to be. summary: vasectomy over a seperate tubal but if you get it done during the c-section it should be ok

I had a tubal after #4, I was tired of waiting for my hubby to have his vasectomy! I had to have a separate proceddure as I had a vaginal delivery. I would have done both at the same time if I had a section. I had my tubal in 2003, no issues related to tubal.

I just had a tubal done in January and so far so good. Mine was done 5 months after I had my last baby so I was under general anesthesia. Healed pretty quickly and just had my 6 week check and everything is great!

I had one after my son was born, I was having a c-section like you had to after i had one with my twins. We decided 4 was enough and since i had tons of problems with my pregnancy i was like i am done having children. I do not have any problems. Since there was a risk of tubal pregnancy, my wonderful hubby decided to get a vasectomy as well, i was surprised but he said if you are going to have your tubes tied i will have the surgery as extra precautions. So far so good we both have had no problems what so ever. Good luck :)

ps i forgot to mention that i do have moodiness around that time of month i have never had that before ever, i think not being on the pill is where that comes from but i deal with it and am good.

I had mine done three yrs ago after my 4th child. Everything with me has been fine but I do have extreme moodiness but I had mood issues before just not as bad as they are now. But it's not a constant thing, it's usually only noticable when it's "that" time of the month. I think everyone probably reacts differently. My periods are normal though and there's nothing else that I've noticed out of the ordinary other than the mood swings.

I had a tubal ligation after my fouth, about 22months ago.Everything checks out normal.regulated periods, average cramping(though my husband says I have more PMS,but I think it's the kids) I really haven't noticed anything but spontaneous love sessions, which I would have to say would beat out all cons.

Wow I wasn'taware tat there were any "side effects" but I was curious after reading your question, so I googled it and to my surprise, it explains so much. I got mine almost 5 years ago I thought my mood change was from my 5 kids, but looking back that is right around when it changed, I struggle really bad with depression, I have an irregular heart beat, my pms is indescribable I am mean, my cramps are excruciating, my pelvic bone hurts all the time. I used to bleed for 3 days top most times it was about a day and a half, now I bleed 2 really really heavy days then I spot for about 3 days and then bleed for another. So wow I dont recomened it my periods lay me out where I can barely function. I did see that they have a new kind that is with a coil but it doesnt work for 6 months. Good luck.

I did it. i was already implanted when i did it. it did not show up on the urine test they gave me on the morning of the "procedure". i miscarried last week. because of the procedure? i dont know. i do know that 4 kids was plenty for me we have 2 of each. i was really scared because ive never had any surgery before but i know that not having any more children is the best thing i can do for my kids. not just expense wise but on a real time to spend with each one and still be able to have me time level. lol if you choose to do it, remember, the feeling like your shoulder is being ripped apart is normal, use hot compresses. its the gas they use to blow you up trying to escape. i thought that was gonna kill me.

I would research things on the internet and talk with your Dr. or the surgeon who would perform the procedure. I know that I have experienced an irregularly fast heart beat as a result and it impacts my work outs. There are risks and side effects to any procedure like that but your Dr. will know best based on your health history, etc. For a long time I regretted getting the tubal, but I'm thankful that for me personally, I wasn't able to have more children (because I might have changed my mind and we have a beautiful family so I wouldn't have wanted that to change). You've taken a good first step by getting opinions from others, but checking with the surgeon and looking up risk factors should be important. Tubals are very difficult to reverse so the woman has to be absolutely certain they are okay with that fact. Best of luck to you in your decision!
