Talk about a triple whammy! I was first diagnosed with ADD when I was in 2nd grade. My mother worked extensively with me on behavior modification and with the help of meds and hard work on my part I managed to grow up, go to college, get married (and divorced) and have two kids. Life was bumping along with all the ups and downs of being a divorced mom with ADD. Some days good, some days just making it through was enough of a victory.

A few months ago I realized something new was going on with me heath wise, I was edgy, angry, had low energy, couldn't get off the couch, didn't want to play with the kids... the list went on. I first thought it was due to hormones and birth control. After realizing that was not the problem I went to my doctor and got the diagnosses of depression with anxiety disorder. The peaces fell into place. Not only was I battling my ADD the new stuff was making me feel horrible for my short comings. I went on Lexapro and a month and a half later am feeling much much better. Now dealing with the ADD (for which I'm not on meds, I take herbal supplements) is a lot easier. The point of my story is, ladies: If you feel something isn't right, talk to your doctor. It may be more then your ADD AD/HD. And as we all know living with that is hard enough. Help is out there and it makes life so much better. Best of luck to my fellow ADD AD/HD ers. I'm on face book all the time and am here to chat if you need. Have a great day. God Bless. Teresa

No one should feel ashamed or abnormal due to ADHD,ADD and other mental diagnosis. I have ADHD and GAD . With therapy such as DBT and journaling feelings daily, I'm finding balance. Don't get me wrong,I have my out of control days which is why I take Adderal and Efflexor, but I still parent and work with professional help.

I've been diagnosed ADHD at the age of five which has been a struggle . They started me on Ritalin which helped me through school. In high school, they switched me to Adderal because Ritalin stopped working due to years of being on it.

Pray tell . . . what are these herbal supplements? I can't stick with a doctor/insurance long enough to keep up with the meds.

What kind of herbal medicines do you take? I don't want to go back on medicine and need something to help with concentration on daily basis. The medicine they put me on had bad side affects. I want a natural way to help me with school and my daughter but not for sure how to go about it. I have recently been diagnosed with PCOS so that is an ordeal in itself.

well we are all in the same boat together.....I have taken ritalin for 10 years, started at 10 mg, don't get me wrong I tried other methods before medication, and then before my son was born was up to 20 mg 4 times a day, I also have depression and anxiety/panic attacks that just come out of no where....I have not been on the ritalin for 2 years but am really wondering if starting it again at a low dose would slow my mind and stop some of the anxiety and the panic...being a teacher it does really help with my focus....my daughter who is 17 is also ADD and I am sure that my 2 year old son will be also ....he has the attention span of a grasshopper beyond what is normal of a 2 year old......it is tough it the trifecta of torture that seems to come with the chemical imbalance that we all deal with....hang in there

Hi Teresa, I also have ADD and depression with anxiety disorder on top of bi-polar, and insomnia, it's terrible.. i'm currently taking prozac, xanax, abilify, ambien, neurontin and adderall xr.. I feel like a walking pharmacy but its the only way I can get through the day. I definitely agree with you about help being out there and there are so many people not understanding or getting help for their systoms like we did. I'm glad you're doing better now though and I wish you the very best!!
