I am a mother of 4 (1 with ADD, 1 with anxiety and myself with ADHD) and a special education teacher. I have tried medications for all of our "issues" and have dealt with terrible side effects and reactions to them. As a teacher, I have witnessed numerous students in a zone while on medication. Now, I'm not someone who is against medication. I'm diabetic and need my medication, but I also value looking for natural options whenever I can. I have found that by ridding our house of the chemical cleaners, we seem healthier and more focused. By watching our diets (limiting sugars), we feel better. By working with the teachers to allow my kids (and students) to have some movement time during class, we are all less stressed. Instead of medication, we have found some natural supplements as well. I love giving hints for you and your children for the classroom and home. Feel free to message me and/or e-mail me at kidsfirst6@yahoo.com so you can give me more details. Keep positive and realize that ADD/ADHD is, in a sense, a gift. We all have our strengths, and my ADHD helps me multi-task like no one else I know:)

Take care!!!

You do not need to go somewhere and get her tested. Instead go online - you won't have to pay for the tests (or VERY little in comparison to a doctor's office) PLUS you won't have the doctor/nurses start pushing you toward drugs. Please, stay away from drugs!!! I'm ADD and so is my daughter - I highly recommend www.3StepsADD.com if it's still available...an ebook - almost didn't purchase it BUT so glad I did several years ago. Or put in the search engine ADD test or ADD/ADHD Test or ADD screening examination.....you get the idea. :) Lots of good info out there. Many of the websites are promoting drugs. Just don't do it. I've tried MANY things over the years, and www.biometics.com has the liquid vitamins that have worked the best - been on them over 4 1/2 years. Excellent, excellent supplements for many, many, many health issues. Try them for a month - if you don't see any improvement, you get 100% moneyback. Can't lose. If you have any questions at all, please contact me again. I don't push - just inform. :) Take care and God Bless, Deborah

I have ADD, and I think that my 5 year old DS might have it as well, but my DH does not think there is such a thing, how do I convince him to get our DS tested?

I too am ADHD. Realized it about 8 years ago while researching it because felt my daughter was ADHD. Then all of a sudden, I realized I WAS!!!! Then about 4 years ago I located some FANTASTIC liquid vitamins that do a HUGE world of good - for a lot of things - including ADHD. They have truely changed my life - and other individuals. Please contact me at trexler3@juno.com. I would LOVE to share the info I have. I've tried many types of natural supplements through the years, but these are the best! :)

I"m sorry you feel that way Eva. I have absolutely researched ADD/ADHD since I am a parent of someone with ADD and myself am ADHD. I firsthand witnessed my son experiencing delusions and losing weight because of medications he was on for ADD. I totally understand the gravity of the diagnosis as I have lived with it for almost 40 years. I have experienced the constant "ups" of medications by doctors. I don't tell my students' parents what to do with medications, but I do witness horrible side effects. Look up the side effects, and you'll see what I'm talking about. Why not try natural supplements that can help one focus without a possible side effect of delusions, anemia, coma, ticks, death, etc.? ADD/ADHD is a condition, but it truly gets a bad rap. I was posting my opinion on it as a person experiencing it. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I am passionate about research and have done it professionally and personally.

Natural supplements do not fix missing pharmacology in the brains of these children, neither will replacing the lysol in you cleaning closet.
They are not going to access their frontal lobes with out sufficient dopamine. The EF (Executive Functioning) will not develop well if they are not accessed. It is NOT a gift. It is a serious medical condition that can for many mean jail, divorce, job failure, substance abuse and addiction. Please as a teacher find out more for you and your kids. Its very manageable but not if you misunderstand the gravity of the diagnosis.

Good for you for looking into alternatives! It sounds like you have a high creative family that needs a lot of stimulation and even extra doses of outdoor activity. Soccer is one of the best ways to increase outdoor physical activity as a preventive to meds along with the other things you are doing.

Personally, I would recommend stepping up the physical activity, especially outdoor, aerobic activity for all family members. What many people do not realize is that our bodies are still extremely primitive. We have fallen so far of the normal physical exercise needs of our bodies that we don't even realize that many of our challenges today stem primarily from lack of exercise. We need at least 4 hours of physical activity a day, preferrably outdoors.

If you aren't already doing this, I would encourage you to shift your schedule to accomodate this #1 need. After a few months of a much higher exercise regimen, let me know how things are going! If you don't believe the power of this simple remedy, think about how everyone responds to living and working on a ranch! There is no such thing as ADD or ADHD in an outdoor environment!

ADHD was a gift during our snow day from school. There are times when I need to focus, and my supplements help me do that. But there are times, like yesterday, when I absolutely love how super powered my ADHD makes me. I multi-tasked like a super star yesterday. This has supercharged me to get back to teaching and share with my ADHD students how lucky they will feel some day to do so many things at once. Always have to look for the positives, ladies!!!
