The first time I had it was 9 years ago but it went away and then came back about 2 years ago. Cortisone shots were very painful and did not work for me. I tried that the first time. I don't know if it was a coincidence or not, but what worked the first time was to massage snake oil into the patches before bed. I tried it again this time around and it worked again, but then the patches showed up in other areas. I haven't reapplied it yet because I dread the smell of the oil. If you decide to use snake oil, make sure you sleep with a shower cap so it doesn't get on your pillow.

hi just wondered how your are doing with your alopecia? Have you had new growth or is it worse? I've been fighting this for about a year now, and my doctor said it's the type that probably won't grow back, since the hair follicles are dead. Yeah... not! I still have fairly thick hair on the back and one side and try to hide the worse parts, but I just worry about it getting worse. Thanks.

I was diagnosed with it when i was about 9. It was awful to have as a child bc everyone picked on you. Thankfully i used Tgel shampoo and just learned not to wash my hair every day and use no extra product on it. When i was 18 i went through that stage of coloring my hair and it started to get thin again so i stopped. never had patches of hair loss. I am wondering if it goes away for good or if its something you live with forever. I have had a very stressful last yr so i am praying that doesnt mean it will start to fall out. If any one knows let me know please :)

My first spot was when I was 17. The pain and embarrassment does subside with time. I haven't used and medications or treatments. My comes and goes with stress and hormone changes but having support is what helps the most. Wash your hair less often and don't use hot water, it strips the oils that can help protect you hair.

I lost all my hair after the birth of my second child, I miss my hair and I hate my wig. I hope to grow it back someday, but I try to focus on the good things in life, like my girls. :)
