you will have to do iy in steps it may take a few processes but it will come out lighter eventually, try a powder lightener called vlight available at mallys and a 20 volume processing solution, be careful not to use to strong of a processer that is what damages the hair,

Hey Jessica, What about your eyebrows?? I have black hair so of course I have black eyebrows. Do I die them? How do I know what color will be best? I have light olive color skin with hazel eyes.

YOU WOULD HAVE TO BLEACH THAT HAS AMONIA IN IT. BUT YOU CAN DO IT JUST THAT YOUR HAIR WILL NEED EXTRA CARE ALOT OF EXTRA CARE.

I ONLY GO TO THE SALON DONT DO MY HAIR AT HOME.

SO THE HAIRDRESSER WILL TAKE GOOD CARE OF IT WITH TREATMENTS.

AND GREASE THE HAIR REGULAR AMONIA DYES DRY OUT THE HAIR.

I LIVE IN THE CARIBBEAN I GUESS THINGS ARE DONE ALOT DIFFERENT ABROAD. I AM BLACK WITH HAIR ALMOST TO MY BUT BUT I GIVE MY HAIR ALOT OF THREATMENTS AND OILS.

Hi, Sylvia! I am a professional....and I will give you the best advice I can.

If you go to a salon, you are looking at the very least $70 and up. Depending on the place and length of your hair it could be well over $150.

If you have box color on your hair (anything that comes in a box and is from Wal-Mart of a drugstore) the best DIY solution (and as a professional stylist I shouldn't be telling you this) is to get a box bleach, like LoReal's Super Blonde. You may want to get 2 or 3 boxes, depending on how light you want to be, and your hairs length.. Apply the bleach to your hair, avoiding any roots (new growth). after about 30 mins, apply the bleach to your new growth, the new growth doesn't have any color on it and will processing time will be much less. Process for the maximum time, but be careful, check your hair frequently for any signs or breakage. If at anytime the product burns your scalp uncomfortable or if you see breakage RINSE IT OUT! Also, don't expect the color to be even. It will most likely turn orange or a very golden yellow that will be gradually darker toward your end. If you feel your hair can with stand another go with the bleach, do it again. For any left over red/gold/ash tones, you can get a color remover (I've seen it at Wal-Mart, but beauty suppliers carry it also) and it will take care of it. Once that is all said and done, find a color to apply over your lightened hair- BUT BEWARE! Avoid any color that has ash (green) tones, because bleached hair is very porous, and sucks in green like a sponge. After all this, and if you reach your desired color (or one you can live with for a while) regularly condition the crap out of your hair, and have it trimmed.

Removing black dye is quite a process...if you have any questions please feel free to ask me. Before I became I cosmetologist, I used to bounce between box black and bleach blonde a lot. But, I have short hair, which makes it a little easier.

is it dyed permanently?

(just did this this summer, then hated the blond, and re-dyed it black..lol)

1. go to a professional. it will take forever and cost an arm and a leg, and you won't get back to a "natural tone", but they can strip it to a light shade, then dye/tone it the way you like. It will always be porous, and the color will not stick that well.

2. do it yourself. Try "OOPs!" color remover (they sell it in walgreen's). You may need to do it 3-4 times- it stinks like hell, and you need to rinse for literally an HOUR after you use it (the rinsing removes the color- don't shorten the time you rinse!) After that, depending on how dark/how many times you overdyed it...how light you want to go..you may still need to use bleach to strip out the rest. Go to a beauty supply store, get 30 power peroxide, and an envelope of effasol, or other "powder" bleach lightener.. use that to "strip" the rest of the color.when you get it light enough, add a toner.. use something with a blue/ash tone to remove yellow/brassy tones.

3. wait till it grows out, and save yourself a lot of money/time/stink!
