I have two older son's as well as a 15month old son who is still nursing, Monday we found out baby 4 is coming. I'm so excited yet nervous. I allready can not seem to keep my b.s. readings under control and I really don't use the insulin like I should because I hate it so much, dr's taking me off all oral medications but says continue insulin and close monitoring but I really dont know how. Im also afraid to do shoots since there is a baby in the same general area could the baby be harmed by the Insulin? HELP!!!!

I am a type 1 diabetic and took insulin in my stomach the entire time through my pregnancy. You cannot harm the baby with the needle, or the medication itself. The baby will produce only the insulin it needs so when you inject yourself the baby will produce less as you share your blood with baby. You will do MUCH more harm to your baby by not taking your insulin while you are pregnant. It can lead to serious problems for the little one, and you.

The baby will not be harmed by the insulin, if anything it will help it out but I'd suggest doing it in another place that you can. If you have any concerns, then try and speak to your doctor that is what they are there for at the end of the day. My doctor thinks I should set up camp lol :)

Good luck and congratulations.

Any oral meds is what harms ur baby!! That is why they have put u on insulin. I would give my shots on my thighs ask for a super thin needle squeeze ur thigh so u dont hit a muscle....you will be fine!

Insulin syringes have such short needles that they won't cause any harm, and your baby won't be exposed to insulin until your body has processed it. When I found out I was pregnant, I started slowly switching my abdominal injections to my lower back/upper ass area. Its the area I always hated the most, but by the time my belly was showing, I was completely comfortable twisting in my chair to shoot my bum. In regards to monitoring your bs readings, your doctor should be sending you to an endocrinologist right away. I basically had to test before every meal and 2 hours afterwards, and aim to have the post-meal bs reading in a good range. It was hard, but I managed to wrestle my bs into better control than I've ever had in my life. And whenever it seems hard, just think of your healthy growing babies.

the baby will NOT be harmed by the insulin shots. just don't give the shots in your abdomen. they say it's ok to do the belly shots if you have enough, um, padding, but it's not worth it. you can do the shots anywhere you have fat...arms, legs, even your bum, though the upper arm tends to be easiest. unfortunately you'll do more harm by avoiding the insulin shots and having high blood sugar levels. the most important thing you can do for you babies...the new one and your 3 older, is to keep your sugar under control. i know it stinks, but that's why there are forums like this where you can bitch to other women who understand! best of luck!
