Sometimes it can be a yeast rash. Try Canesten for athletes foot. Sounds weird but it worked amazing on my son.

If you haven't found any cream that works yet try regular old corn starch! My son gets real bad diaper rash and if we don't catch it soon enough no cream will touch it. So we use corn starch. Depending on how bad it is we would use up to 2 tablespooons. You can smooth some onto his bottom, but just put it in his diaper where his bottom hits it. It works wonders, better than any cream we've tried. When we do catch the rash early the only cream that works on his bottom is desitin. We would even use desitin and cornstarch combined sometimes and that worked well too. Good luck!

I have always used baby powder with cornstarch in it. My toddler had real bad diaper rash on vacation in Puerto Rico and that eased the pain. The other thing I will suggest, put him to bed or nap naked or in cloth training pants that way you don't irratate the diaper rash any further. Hope this helps

when my son was first born he kept diaper rash. i couldnt understand why and even when i took him to the doc the creams wouldnt clear it up all the way. come to find out his skin was extremely sensitive and even though i was changing him often the diaper itself was irritating him. the best thing that worked for me for his rash was to go and get aveeno soothing bath treatment with oatmeal in it(its a powder that adults and kids put in bath water) pour a little of the powder in a bowl and add some water, just enough to make a paste. put that on the rash and let it air dry(it will turn chalky looking when its dry) i always did this at night time and the next morning the rash would be completely healed! this worked so well i switch all his bathing products to everything put out by AVEENO and after that he very seldomly got a rash. I hope this works for your little one!

This is going to sound weird, but it was recommended by a Dr. & is awesome....regular Crisco. The plain old white kind in the can (or stick, I guess). Use it all over the rash, every diaper change. Also, change to the sensitive skin wipes or use soap & water. Air out as much as possible, too. Good luck.

I've tried everything except prescriptions (which are available if it's breaking skin and bleeding like that). My son never fusses when he's wet so it was a serious problem earlier on. And his skin is highly sensitive like mine, no sented lotion or laundry detergent for him! Of everything we've tried BAG BALM! Bag Balm is magic on our son's bum. Corn Starch really does help him not want to itch but I don't see a big difference in the rash when we use it. Bag Balm. Seriously, nothing beats it.

Do what I like to call "free range" meaning no diapers for a few hours. This is the fastest way I've found to clear up a rash. It allows the skin to breathe and dries it up. If he's not walking yet just put him on a few towels. If you've got a walker, go outside (obviously doesn't work with cold weather) or stay in a spill friendly area of the house (kitchen).

You may need a prescription to cure this one however, the good news is once it's cured you can keep it cured. I have 3 boys & the best advice my sister with 4 kids gave me was use "butt" cream ALL the time as a preventative measure. Change diapers frequently & everytime you do apply the cream & alot of it-coat, coat, coat the fanny. Good luck & soon I'm sure he'll get his shiney hiney back:):)

I use a lanolin based antiseptic that is actually for horses and cattle called Corona Salve, but I have also used the lanolin salve you get when you are breast feeding, you do have to watch because some people are allergic to lanolin and will break out from it. But I have found that it works better than anything else and I get the Corona Salve at the feed store for $9 for a tube three times the size of desitin.

My pediatrician gave me a "recipe" for what I call magic cream. It works wonders almost immediately, and I kept a Tupperware of it on my changing table. It's one part of each of the following: A&D ointment, triple anti-biotic (such as Neosporin), hydrocortisone cream, Lotramin cream, and Desitin. It works like a miracle!

O and btw, naked time, no wipes, oatmeal bath, only cleaning w warm soft cloth, and changing ever hour will all lead to a very quick fix. And the vusion cream had his HORRIBLE bleeding rash better within 2 days... also witchhazel pads-excellent healing!

My son always had super sensitve skin too! If you want to try the at home method 1st triple paste is the best over the counter out there at this time, however it sounds like his rash is to the next level already, so it may be better to just make an apt and go to the dr. The dr will perscribe a med called VUSION, its a perscription med, and VERY expensive (over $100) IF ur insurance does not cover it- so just make sure b4 asking the doc about it, or the doc may have samples he can give your baby. That is by far the BEST med out there right now. Good luck!!

My son used to have severe diaper rash too. I found out that it was from food allergies. You might want to get that checked out. He can't have gluten, casein, or soy, shich is very common with the "hamburger bottom". You might want to try Calendula cream, or Casteroil. Those were the only things that helped us at all until I changed his diet. Good Luck. :)

Chances are if its bleeding that it isnt just a rash. Its a yeast infection. That is what a doctor will prescribe nystatin for. Or you can just go get some OTC athletes foot cream or monistat. It has always worked for my boys.

Both my boys have super sensitive skin, and we switched from wipes with alcohol in them, to water-based. For rash cream, we've used both Triple Paste (which worked wonders for a while) and now Desitin. Cornstarch is also helpful.

MY SON JUST HAD A rash similar to that and i took him to the doctor and they told me that it was a yeast infection. I was like i didnt know boys got those and he said yes ita a warm wet place so bacteria can make a home there. He gave me cream and its gone now.

Butt paste works the best. Is he allergic to anything? My 13 month old gets rashes like that if he's had any cheese or milk. Check out food allergies.

We tried several creams. My doctor even prescribed some. Aquaphor worked best at keeping moisture away from the raw area. We eventually stopped using wipes due to the irritation. We just use wet paper towels. I cut a paper towel roll in 1/2 or 1/3, wet it and store it in a plastic bowl near our changing table. When you think about it, we just use toilet paper for ourselves. Why do we need to use wipes with fragrances and other things on our babies? Obviously, it's ok if there's no diaper rash but if the area is raw and bleeding and my child is screaming every time I wipe him, it's a different story!

I was lucky with my first two sons. They would get a diaper rash and with destin they would go away rather quickly. My third son on the other hand wasn't that simple. What I have found to help is just let them go without a diaper for a little while through out the day. Put some putromulum jelly or any cream. You should start to see a difference in a couple of days if not get a prescription from your doctor.

To treat a diaper rash, you can do many of the same things, but try to avoid vigorous rubbing of sore areas. A squirt bottle and then gently patting your infant dry can be less irritating. Next, after allowing him to completely dry, let him air out a little longer if possible, and put a generous amount of your favorite diaper rash cream or ointment to completely cover the rash.

Other things that parents do to prevent diaper rashes include:

* frequent diaper changes
* letting their infant go without a diaper as much as possible
* using unscented wipes
* using warm water and a mild soap instead of wipes
* using a squirt bottle to clean without rubbing
* letting the diaper area fully dry before putting another diaper on.

YES! The best one for me was MUSTELA diaper cream. It has a high level of zinc oxide and staaaaaaaays on. You can put the cream on at night and by the morning most of it is goine (and I am talking about severe diaper rash) Also, I used pampers sensitive wipes, super soft and no fragrance..... My last advice.... the cream I guess burns upon application (must be the zinc oxide) but IT WORKS wonders.... can buy it at Nordstrom, Babies R Us or 1800diapers.

This sounds like a yeast infection. Yes, boys can get them too. We all have active yeast in our bodies. You should get a prescription from your doctor to put on his bum. You will see a huge difference soon. I don't know if you put baby powder on him all the time, but I found that to be a big life savor. Once I started using that religously, I never had a problem there after. Hope this helps.

My doctor recommended that i allow my son to go without a diaper whenever possible to let the air hit it. It seemed that the diaper irritated the skin more and it did not matter how often i changed him to keep the area dry. I only put a diaper on him if i had to go out or for sleeping. Yes, he did have some accidents, but, cleaning it up was sure better than watching him suffer with a prolonged rash. The rash cleared up in a few days. After that, i made sure he had desitin on at every change.

I used Lansinoh cream/ointment that is for breastfeeding issues when the diaper rash was extra bad - also, oxygen to the area is great - if you can let him lay on a diaper or towel without a diaper for a while it helps!
