well, i have heard a few things. One i read that you may have to introduce the veges on their plate 10 to 12 times before they will try and then like the other mom said i saw on a show that if you just throw some veges and fruit into a blender and make a shake and put it in a mcd's cup or wherever they may like shakes from they will think it's great.

Quoting Kirsty:

i have two boys one 17months and the other 34 months and they are really funny with there veggies one day they will eat them all and other days they wont touch them but i just sevre them with every meal so hopefully over the week they will have gotten enough veggies but as for getting there 5 a day down them they are fine as they love fuirt.

about the 5 a day.   i reasently read that  the 5 is to be 3 pices of fruite and 2 veggies.....

i have always thought  that my son NEVE got enough of it couse i thougt you were to eat 3 hole fruits and 2 hole veggies...  but it's not the case.  each of the 5 it a peace that is to fit in the hand of the eater...    and i was like   puuuh     it's like a apple bout it 1 of the 5 for a kid!!

:D   i got so happy to read it....    so if you  have mash potatos with mashes carrot in it (we love it) with dinner, and the kid eats a hand size of it two of the 5 is eaten.     then if you put some berrys or fruit bites in the kids lunch boks    tadaaa :)       and we even serv fruit bites( and veggies too) with tv time or for evening snacks

i think veggis is something that needs to be introdused when the baby starts eating solid food... coz geeee it's not easy to give kids new food...

am very hush when it comes to trying new food.. it's just not posible to say you don't like before eating a good bite of it.. but i don't force more if my son really don't like it.. but try latar(a month or so) and se if "he have grown into liking it" hehe

for me it's beans my son don't like, i have made all types of beans is very much different ways. ( we almoust have beens 5-7 times per week).

but i have found one dish he can eat smal of with beans. it's a Kenyan dish and it's lovely..and the best of it is that you cant see or feel the beans :)

(my hubb is from Kenya)

what i do in spagetti sause or other sause i take mushrooms and veggies in the mixer... then you cant see it and it's vell mixed with "the good" ingrediance.. so you cant really tell :)

hope you find a way to get your kids to eat everything

I plant broccoli "trees" in their mashed potatoes and usually I put fresh raw stuff in a bowl on the table an hour before supper and they munch them on the fly while Im cooking dinner, then they dont have them on their plate where they feel forced to eat them. I also puree them into sauces like spaghetti or in stews.,

I have a cook book that is great. It is called The Sneaky Chef. All recipes have veggies and superfoods in them like blueberries, spinach, cauliflower just to mention a few. All recipies are kid friendly and they won't even know the good stuff is in there. The only thing I would recommend is purchasing a food processor to pre make the purees. I tried my blender for a while but it didn't do a good job.

Oh, and of course we never require that they eat "all of" something they think they don't like at the time ... just that they give it a good honest try every time it is served.

My advice is to just keep at it, offering again and focusing more on attitude training than the food. We have had some battles over the years, but at 4 and 7 my first two boys now literally dive into their food and actually cheer for me when I serve our very healthy, very adult dinners. I did not lecture with "children around the world" stories, but I did consistently encourage them that as a family we eat what we are given with thankful hearts. It works!

Both of my boys go through phases. At one point, I thought they would be vegetarian. Now my 3 1/2 yr old refuses to eat most veges. However, he loves carrots with ranch dip also. Summer was much easier because we planted a garden and he loved to eat the veges that he grew. Now I take him grocery shopping with me and let him pick out items that he will eat. I also give him V8 Fusion which also has veges in it. This is no substitute but it helps.

My kids won't really eat any veggies except carrots and corn on the cob. (mashed potatoes if they count). They love baby carrots with ranch dip but when we ran out they still ate them without it which surprised me. Also, my 4 year old was obsessed with snowmen this year so I bought regular carrots and told him they were snowman nose carrots and he loved it.

They think corn on the cob is a treat because it's fun to eat I guess but regular corn, forget about it. I think if you have toddlers they are picky anyways so it's hard to get them to eat pretty much anything unless they happen to be good eaters. (WHich is none of mine).

Just keep putting them on the plate even if they don't eat them at first. They'll get used to the fact that veggies aren't going away. And the more you stress that they HAVE to eat them, the more rebellious about it they will be I think.

Oh, also, I make fruit smoothies a lot and throw things in them that they don't know are there so that's a great way of getting them to eat things they otherwise wouldn't.
