My little boy comes up to me and tell me when he goes to the bathroom in his diaper and needs a new one. Is he ready to be potty training? Dr. thinks it's to soon. I need help??

According to my doctor, 3 yrs old is the age to start. Advice from friends said when they wake up dry from nap. I did it like you would train your dog. I know that sounds terrible. I would set the kitchen timer for 20mins and when it beeped we would go read a story sitting on the potty. Then get a reward, like a marshallow. I also recommend going to the library and getting a Potty Training DVD. I though it was the cheesiest thing, but for my youngest (2.5) it has worked. Books: Max's Potty and Time to Pee (author of Piegon series books).

It wouldn't hurt to show him the potty chair! My sister just potty trained my nephew and he just turned 2 last week. My first 2 boys were about 2 1/2 when they were potty trained and then my third son was potty trained at about 2 but then he regressed and went back to using diapers until just before he turned 3. =) Just buy a potty chair and sit it out for him. Let him sit on it and see what it's like. This is gross but to show him that poop goes in there you can always put some of his poop from his diaper in there just so he can visually see that poop goes in the potty chair. A pretty common age for boys to potty train is around 3. But every child is different so you might as well give it a shot. Just don't pressure him or make him feel bad if he doesn't get it. Good luck!

I think that if your son cantell you when he needs to be changed its a good time to at least introduce it to him. I have 6 year old twins I started potty training them pretty steady when they turned 3 It took them until they were 5 to get it down 100%(their doctor said it takes twins & boys a little longer). So I say the sooner you can do it hte better as long as you don't punish him when he has an accident you should be fine. Good Luck
